Get an external usb adapter, should cost less than $20. Just take out the hard drive and connect it to the adapter. Then borrow another computer and try to access from there, unless it's too physically damaged you should be able to access your files.
Is it a spinning drive or ssd? If it's spinning, do you hear a clicking noise when it starts up?

Do you know the drive itself is the issue, or are you saying the computer won't start up? If the computer is having trouble booting there may not necessarily be anything wrong with the hardware, and an external adapter will work.

They are going to tell you to format the drive after they take the pics and put them on their own personal hard drive and we'll see them here within a week of you bringing it in. Or you can ask one of your "nerd" friends to do it for some weed or alcohol and except the fact that those pics are going to end up on the internet anyway.
Option 2: take new pics of your wife's pussy and post them here now. They're gonna be here anyway. And if you get lucky you'll find someone that'll do it for those pics.

If he had a hard drive from like pre 2008 maybe the freezer thing might work, but even then it he would have to wrap it some serious plastic baggery.

if you are srsly just paranoid about wife noods, fuck it. they will prob just dd the drive over without looking at any files unless you request file recovery instead of drive recovery.
if its a hardware failure it will get expensive fast. hdd can be recovered after hardware failure but its probably more work than you are willing to apply to it. and its probably too expensive unless it was some seriously good noods. there are a multitude of variances even within identical model runs.
Why would you swap internals if the microcontroller is bad? It'd be easier to just swap the board, you just have to be sure to get the same exact model, but then if you swap platters you have to get a similar model anyway.

If it's CP and you can't recover it yourself don't fucking send that shit somewhere. If it really is just your wife and you can't do it yourself and you think it's worth it you can take it somewhere. If it has to be sent to a data recovery facility it will be hundreds of dollars though. But most of them won't even see the pics and if they do they aren't going to give a shit.
If it's just when it first spins up and you don't hear it after that it's probably nothing to worry about, drives make some noise when they spin up. If it's a regular clicking noise while the drive is active it's probably going to die soon.

this is usually first symptom of a disk thats going bad. depending on conditions, it might last over a year or might last a few days.
