Consumer credit doesn't support a very dependable credit system, either. Think credit reporting bureaus. Your credit score is tied to your name, identity theft is so common that tons of people buy identity theft insurance. Compare this to business debt. Loans are backed by BUSINESS ASSETS. So if the loans aren't paid off, which would be because the business wasn't profitable, no problem. The assets go to the lender who puts them towards a more profitable purpose. If a consumer goes bankrupt, they could be facing eviction and repossession of property, and a bad personal credit score is something that hiring firms look up as well as dates. (More to come but want to post this in case the thread dies)
