Now that support for windows 7 is ending, what are your final thoughts on windows 7?

I still love it. Best windows I ever had.

it'sd better than windows 6.9 but less good than windows 7.1

I will keep my laptop on Windows seven no matter what.
The desktop will be whatever Microsoft wants it to be.

Literally now forced to use ugly ass flat design madness, bloated, and openly botnet shit if you want to still use a Windows machine. It's not even as though they have fixed any of the inherently buggy and fucked up parts of the thing.

God, I hate Apple, but Windows want to make be blow my brains out and Linux is a fragmented and impractical mess. I would love a bit of the simplicity and elegance of the MacOS on a real non-toy machine. Is it too much to ask that after ~40 years of personal computers that thing would have improved for the consumer? We're sliding back down the hill.

Better than 10

It was awfully ugly, but that's about the only downside. W10 is alright but if you're not on touchscreen device, most features like the big square Windows Phone blocks on the start menu, etc are completely useless and take up so much screen space... It feels like you're using a windows phone emulator on your PC.

so whats happening now that support is ending? forced obsolescence by rejection of network operation by windows?
i just had a cellphone do such a thing
RIP

You can get a iMac Pro with an 18 core Xeon, 256GB of memory and a 5K display, but you're going to pay a premium for it.

was cool

Dual boot W7 & Linux. Use the W7 side for all offline shit (work, photoshop, windows programs, etc), use the Linux side for online shit like paying bills, going to youtube, etc.

>256gb of RAM

But why?

What about gaming? Next you're gonna say get a console? Hah

That's my point though. Anything even remotely decent in terms of hardware from them is priced way too high. Everything vaguely affordable ($1k -2k) is literally toy quality and full of design flaws. For $2000 you can get a basic bitch Mac or a powerful PC but with bullshit Windows 10. In the end you suck it up and get the PC and wonder why Microsoft seems so intent on punishing their user-base with clunky, ugly, bloated, botnet shit. This is not the future we were promised.

I only really need it for pirated stuff. When using official stuff I`ve found I`m having a 90% success rate getting my stuff working on Linux. Most with lutris and proton and wine.

Vulkan, dxvk, mesa etc etc. Thankyou for this.

They already stopped delivering updates that could be trusted years ago when they started bundling spyware and shit in with them.

I'm still not going to install windows 10

It just means it won't get more official updates that they already forced every windows 7 holdout to turn off.

I hear ya. That iMac Pro would be a little over twelve grand...

>gaming

gaming is an overrated time wasting trap that if you're lucky you will eventually get bored with.

Because I can't get half a terabyte.

i am glad for demon's souls to give me a little solace.
oh, shoulda figured. rip the beast. guess i'll dip my toes into linux again when i have to. at some point i wonder just how avoidable all of it really is.

dunno, switched to ubuntu as soon as win10 came out

>ubuntu

Ubuntu vs Mint?

But what do you need that much ram for in the first place? You doing ML or AI development?

>overrated time wasting trap that if you're lucky you will eventually get bored with

Hey, that's also how the opposite sex views you.

>This is not the future we were promised.

We were promised flying cars, but got Twitter. I hear ya.

>directX

It was ok. Did it’s purpose, didn’t crash often, overall it did it’s job well

was a great OS but very dated now. windows 10 in it's current state (i'm on 1903) is a million times better than 7 ever was. good on microsoft not extending support just because people are moaning about change. go use linux if you really don't want to deal with W10.

Who gives a shit I’m using it until 99% of the programs not support it like XP

Plebs still using MS products.. grow up and get some distro of linux.

How can you go thru life being this damn retarded lel when stupid people don't know what steam is.

Ubuntu
>more community support and dev
Mint
>less of the above and kinda out dated

When the change is MS now owns your PC, it's a problem. Forced updates, forced telemetry, built in advertising and paid software installs, reverting what limited privacy controls are available, telemetry system provides full backdoor access and EULA says Ms has full access to all your files. Yeah, just whining about change. Fuck off.

>I will keep my laptop on Windows seven no matter what.
you're the king of retards if you go online with that

windows 7 support doesnt end if you're not connected to the internet lol
t.I still use Windows XP on my other machine

Ive been running win7 without updates for years. No issues. Because there's not been Any bugs where you can just scan IPS and install at will. Adblock, noscript, and not being an idiot is better than jackasses like you fully up to date.

I would partly agree with this, on enterprise level updates roll out 3-6 months after current times. This is due to testing to see if there are changes in the environment. Good end users are better than just updated pcs with a good virus\malware scanner no matter how up to date it is.

Allowing win10 in the Enterprise is crazy. Even a large Corp that has the slightly better Enterprise version (unavailable outside large business unless you pirate) leaves a an open backdoor and active telemetry that purposefully evade blocking attempts.

We do use enterprise version
Telemetry can be disabled

>feels like talking to a anti vaxxer
you don't sound like a noob, thats good, but a simple bug in an image viewer/a system-dll that is used by your browser/mailer and you viewing an malicious image/mail is enough. don't tell me you follow all those bug reports and act accordingly?!
not keeping your system updated also endangers others (same with not getting your vaccinations)
