Didn't get into multiplayer until a few years ago because couldn't afford internet as a kid, but goddamn once I got my own laptop I sank so many hours into the multi. Would sit at my laptop all day in the library playing Halo. Never got to experience it on xbox live though...

This game stepped away from pure strat to having a hero and leveling shit up which is fine I guess. But 3 had no real Navy battles, and you had to beat the stages in a very linear way - when 2 you could get creative with sea and air power. 3 was just a cluster fuck of shit by having 1 of each thing attack and bleh.

I've played socom (the third one I believe) on the ps2 and it was pretty damn good. Tbh at first I only played it because it was the only shooter I had on ps2 after moving somewhere else, but I grew to like it. It's a good game, but I remember the controls/framerate to be choppy

I have played halo, we used to lan it at my friend's house.
i have 0 respect for socom III and feel it was the worst in the franchise so i accept you feeling that way based only on playing s3.
however, socom1 when headset gaming was unheard of (the game actually came with a headset with built in voice recognition) was the most fun ive had in any multiplayer shooter, and socom II was just as good but had some balance issues with 2 of the guns.
if you had played 1 or 2 originally I think you would feel different about it compared to halo

Multiplayer in Halo 1 was godly, but if you've never played the campaign, I urge you to play through it. Easily the best campaign in any game. Truly 10/10

While I agree the concept of heros made the game a bit worse it still was an amazing RTS game.
But it outclassed all other games in terms of custom maps that where made.
It spawned the entire genre of MOBAs because some neckbeard basement dweller created a custom map in WC3(I know dota was a SC1 map too but not the same)

The story was garbage. You just run in a straight line and maybe get off of the path once. And when you do you find nothing. No cool objects, nothing. For instance in Aldia's Keep in DS2 you can run into that guy who wants you to kill people who "Wronged" him. The merchant near the hole and shit. 3 was just good to those who grew up with Diablo 3. Better costumes doesn't equal a better game.
