Just plead guilty on first appearance. Jude was surprised asked why told him I screwed up, was in a bad place, and still was, and I just wanted to get it over with.

Thing was the cop that busted me didnt show. Judge told me to come back in a month.
I met a lawyer at a bar during that time and he told me the judge was giving me a chance to go to AA and shit. So I did. He was right. Got my conviction down to a care and control.

Worst isnt the conviction and court, it's when insurance finds out and you basically are forced to not drive and it becomes civil death, or pay like 600 a month for auto insurance. Good luck!

I beat a DUI charge with a lawyer. It was barely worth winning the case. Standard disposition for a first offense costs about the same but will get this shit over with asap. Took two years after appeals and all the court nonsense to get a final verdict and that's just two extra years until expungement and two years more of jacked insurance rates. But fuck the DA anyway, prosecutors are assholes.

Two of my buddies got DUIs. One of them got it like 7 years ago and he's still dealing with it in court and all that shit. He's paid over $15,000 in lawyer fees, not to mention his totalled car and the fact that there is a list of countries he's now banned from entering including the US which is next door to us (we're in Canada).

People who drive drunk are selfish and don't give a fuck about anybody else. So telling them they might hit a kid or whatever won't do shit, they can't imagine it. The best way to get people not to drive drunk is to make them realize how much of their own lives they're fucking up.

I very nearly lost my sister to a drunk driver. They had to pull apart the wreckage in the middle of the night to extract her. Both arms, both legs, ribs, and more broken... she spent a year in the hospital and therapy and it totally destroyed her spirit. I would never wish the pain our family has endured on anyone.

While I feel sorry for OPs situation, I believe the severe penalties are well and truly deserved. Driving is a privilege, and if you are unable exercise some unable control, I think maybe this privilege should be taken away for the rest of your life.

The DA brought a charge on a guy that tested negative on all tox tests except for caffeince based on an officer's arrest report of erratic driving.
