well the persona series is a bit lighter on these elements as i understand it, but SMT tends to have a lot of cosmic horror and extremely powerful entities. i know in SMT nocturne, the whole world gets destroyed and remodeled in like the first half hour of the game,
lots of things like that, and the mainline SMT games are typically pretty dark too

some would probably say that. i think its less tightly focused on the combat rpg mecahnics, because it has to also fit in a dating sim and some other things
i mean more that the stories in persona are a little bit more grounded. in fact theyre usually pretty darn normal for the majority of the game, with maybe a few things you need to suspend yoru disbelief for, like persona and shadows and the transforming school in persona 3 for instance.
SMT is a lot more fantastical, like the nocturne example i gave.
