I've never had a .44 magnum or .357 desert eagle to be able to compare. It may just be the sheer size of the .50 AE that is it's downside. So much powder just goes everywhere in the gun. This may be lessened in these calibers but I haven't an idea. I guess find a comparable 1911 or something. There are a few that can be had in .357.

Yeah at this point, 10mm is a bit scarce. .40 has more stopping power than 9mm at the cost of maybe an additional round or two. My PT101 holds 16+1. If 17 rounds isn't enough then you need to work on your aim.
