There's nothing more saddening than falling out of love with a show. I was a massive fan, read the books, learned the history. All because I loved the show. Seasons 1 to 4 were amazing. Season 5 was rocky, but I was still in love with it. I understood they were running on their own course now. Season 6 hit and I was joyed. The show seemed better than ever. Then season 7... I liked it, defended it. I excused some things, ignored even. "It has 7 episodes, of course it has to be a bit rushed," I said to myself. Now we're here at season 8. What did we do to deserve this? Logic, gone, story, gone. Every shocking moment isn't for the good of the show, it's just for reaction. Remember the Red Wedding? That was shocking, and drove the story forward. Now we get Arya killing the Night King, a character she literally knew almost nothing about. Now we have Rhaegal's death out of nowhere, for no real reason. Just so D&D can say "that was a shocker, right?" I'm still gonna watch and support because I've been here this long, but I'm just disappointed that all these years, and this is what I'm left with: the shell of what Game of Thrones used to be. All shows must die.

I feel like most tv shows end up getting wrapped up poorly. I think a lot of times there’s just no satisfying way to wrap up a TV show that’s gone past 5 seasons.
Community went through a similar thing. Seasons 1 - 3 were incredible. Season 4, the creator got fired, but it was still manageable.
Then season 5 and 6 came, and it was sad. Actors left- some stayed- the overall mood had changed...
Another good example is Archer, where the beginning is amazing, and the recent seasons have just been rehashed themes from before.

I like the direction they took with it, and enjoyed it. I don't trust the writers, though. We'll see. I also was at a loss as to why she didn't slaughter them at the gate. Or at least kill Tyrion, which would have been easy. Lob a few ballista shots at the dragon, see what happens. Then a couple into the unsullied. She would have taken some of them out, and maybe gotten lucky. Still, if the writers continue in this direction, Dany will slaughter everyone, then the kingdom will divide between her and Egg. We'll see. I just have no faith in the writers at all.
I feel like the either the lion should be moved down to the bottom where the 'fire' effect is or the split should not be horizontal so the fire-ice differentiation should cut the Lannister lion into fire and the Stark direwolf into the ice blue glow. Thematically I like the idea of that image but it falls short in the details.
If Cersei would have fired on them and Drogon didn't get taken down she would have been roasted. She isn't going to risk something like that. I liked parts of episode 3. I didn't mind that Arya took down the Night King what I did mind was that his generals did absolutely nothing the entire battle. I would have loved to see the heroes face off against them. Jaime and Brienne teaming up against one for example. I did love the scene with Lyanna Mormont taking down the giant and when Jorah went down defending Dany. Like I said the episode had great moments but didn't have great execution as a whole.
The episode had good moments. I didn't see anything great. There was a lot of stuff in it that was just terrible. I think my biggest complaint, though, would be that the military strategy and fighting choreography have totally gone to shit. Those could not be worse. Since Episode 3 largely revolved around that, it failed horribly.
At least we still have Clegane Bowl to look forward to.

Arya killing the Night King that easily and without a scratch on her was one of the most fan service “fights” I’ve ever seen, and I never expected anything like that to come from GoT. ‘Member Prince Oberyn vs. The Mountain? I would have even accepted Arya and the NK killing each other over her just one shotting him like that.
Her sparring match with Brienne in season 7 was one of the highlights of the entire season.

Especially after decapitating Mesandie (if that's how it's spelt), Grey Worn looked like he lost all bodily functions and that would surely translate to his troops. everyone has been complaining about this show since the night king episode. I just watched it a few days ago. Even though it was spoiled for me I still thought it was a great episode. The cinematography was great, it was a dark episode, creepy and epic battle. It was without a doubt the best battle scene in the series. Yeah so the night king dies. That's what happens to all bad guys. The guy was unbeatable, except an unlikely hero of the series kills him. That is something that happens in just about every fantasy. Some bitch cuts off saurons finger in lord of the rings, then a hobbit kills him again, david and goliath. If you haven't realized the same construct of stories has been recycled in to fantasy since the bible and you were expecting something original from another human being then you are stupid. The complaint is the story leading up to these pivotal moments. Good storytelling has buildup and doesn't just deus ex machina every big bad. Nothing is fleshed out anymore. It's like d&d know the destination but not the journey.
Its rare that a show can stay great throughout or startoff just alright and go nowhere but up. 5 to 6 seasons tend to be the drop off for most shows.
Shield is probably one of the rare shows that never went to shit past 5 seasons.
Supernatural is also unique that it went to shit after season 5 but then a few seasons later got fun again, I mean shit its finally reaching its final season next year and God is the final boss.

it was also Danys greatest flaw, her obsession with the Iron Throne, her meeting Jon and fighting the dead was supposed to represent character growth, show her that there were more important things than that

This pisses me off too. Writers need the book to tell them how to tell a story. I'd still recommend the show overall. Books, probably, but let's be honest he's going to pass away before he's done. Not necessarily a bad thing for him since his series boomed but it does suck when authors pass with unpublished works
