I lived in one of the more expensive parts of germany on 2400 euro a month pre-tax and lived in a nice 900 sq ft apartment and was still able to put money away every month. 2700 post tax is easily upper middle class in most areas.

First, try understanding you paycheck. There is no way you pay 50% in taxes. You do pay about 15-20% in (health-)insurance and social security and about 30% in taxes. Furthermore your marginal, not your average, tax rate will be about 45% to f you exceed an annual income of EUR 250k p.a.

Try to use deductibles (so-called Werbungskosten) and try to find a cheaper health insurance. Do you tax return for the last three years if you have not done so in order to reclaim some money.

With that salary 15% goes to statutory health insurance (matched by the employer), ca. 10% miscellaneous insurances (pension, care, unemployment etc.). ca. 30% is federal income taxes. Welcome to Germany...
