Because they created the basis for the society will still live in, western society dominates the world and will continue to do so for all of history because every other attempt at a civilizational structure has been objectively inferior. The best is China and they still refuse to give up authoritarian ideas or respect human freedom, which is why despite an early history of great invention everything they do now is purely derivative of the west. Without western ideals society will just wallow in it's own filith, going through endless cycles of purges and jihads and whatever else.

If you want to save the earth, let alone ever be able to explore beyond it, western ideals are your only hope. China's answer, if they even believe in global warming, would be to pay whatever exorbitant cost in terms of human activity and freedom it takes to solve the problem, they wouldn't innovate, their would be no necessity to be the mother of their inventions because they'll just make any human sacrifice they're asked without thinking about it, hell, thinking themselves morally superior for having made the sacrifice.
