Griding as a ret paladin was a pain in the ass, and took ages. With the right gear and talents they were pretty nifty in PvP, and brought a whole lot of utility in PvE.
Rotations were lotta fun in comparison to the braindead rotations we've got nowadays, with the seal dancing, swing timer and shit.

Balance druid is called OOMkin for a reason.
Only thing that struggles more with mana is shadow priest. The damage is alright for the short duration it lasts.

Ele shaman is inferior to other casters in damage, but does have a slight edge on survivability. If you go shaman DPS you will be enhancement if you wanna be strong.
At least you have totems to help you so you won't be completely useless and oom all the time
If you wanna be a caster play mage for damage or warlock for utility, both are way supperior to both balance and ele

Depends on what you think is fun, they're not really considered end game viable, but you can put up respectable numbers if you're willing to put in twice the effort to farm consumables and whatnot, you're never gonna top charts though.

You'll also have a easy time, but still slower when leveling druid, mixing feral and a bit of resto i think
Warlock is always welcome for their portal and healthstones, though their damage is below mages
Hunters will be spammed everywhere, so you may have competition
Priests are ALWAYS wanted as they're the best overall healers when it comes to mana to health efficiency
For casters, ALWAYS level tailoring for that sweet sweet pre raid BiS gear
Shadow priest is only good in PvP (where people will learn to fear you)

They aren't a lot of fun to level. a lot of auto attacking and hoping to get seal procs. That being said its not the worst, you have self healing and you get a free mount. Its worth it to me max level

May wanna add to this that raid set bonuses were mainly balanced around one spec.
Paladin is balanced around holy
Priest around holy
Druid around resto
There is a reason most classes only had one viable spec (if any viable spec at all)

3 of the worst dps specs for raiding, you can rank down lightning bolt based on how much mana you have to extend your ability to keep casting it, but it's not good for pve, pvp ele can explode people. Kitty you have to farm crowd pummelers and depending on when they release the wolfshead helm pattern it still may not be viable even if you farm the pummelers.

That with updated graphics that don't have that cartoon style but more realistic looks, a better graphics engine that doesn't FPS tank so hard once a few people are in one spot, no flying so that exploration and gound movement becomes a thing again, less copy & paste design that is pointless (same cave patterns, everyone must have 3 talent trees, even DPS classes), seperated way ech ability works when used for PVE and for PVP so that each can be balanced individually without messing with the other, a currency limit, no dailies but just weeklies at most, challenging enemies and also more challenging ones once you get better gear so that there's still some danger out there in the world for you to handle instead of just in dungoens / raids, professions that are useful and offer unique benefits for the person having the profession, no matter the class / spec, a lot of environemntal fun / to do things that have nothing to do with what the game wants you to do but that exist just for mood and fun (like chairs -> add more usable things), things we've waited aeons for but didn't ever get (real character customization / housing / dances), story for the whole world instead of calling for new land mass with each addon and only that spot there is where things happen and matter, less linear gameplay leading straight to raids but instead everything is closely valid to another, with just a mix of skill / organization / time investment / resources required to determine how long it'll take to progress -> people shouldn't be left out with garbage gear just because they don't want to raid, PVP equipment shouldn't offer basic advantages that you need (resilence; that should be a built-in passive to everyone) but just like raid gear the better stats and a set bonus (with maybe multiple set boni).

For me, shadow priest. I always found mage boring. The flip side is, mage will always have a raid spot, shadow? Not so much in classic. Shadow was pvp.

Shame blizz absolutely nerfed spriests and buffed everyone else it seemed (especially melee.) The class balance guy played a warrior as his main. Fucker. As unbalanced as wow usually was, in vanilla, most classes were close to perfect as they could be, unlike what the game turned into. Classes were unique but had their strengths and weaknesses that good players could use to their advantage.
