Well, that's not entirely true. Clearly they know exactly what they are going to do with it; crank out as much sellable shit into each movie and then sell shit-ton of toys and games and fucking CEREAL with a character's picture on the box. That's where the real money is - in the merch.

It's just sad to see that they don't know how to make MOVIES about it. They don't know how to write characters or hold consistent themes. It's all to shove as much eye-candy into each minute as possible and keep it so fast paced that the audience doesn't have time to think "This movie doesn't make any sense."

Every character is either perfect in every way (yes, it is called Mary Sue regardless of their sex/gender/whatever. Han Solo was a flaawless Mary Sue in his own movie), they are either complete cardboard cut-outs with no depth other than "This is a bad guy" or "This is comic relief" or "This is supposed to be deep and philosophical" without having any real depth into them.
Every plot has holes like swiss cheese, everyone is an idiot, every scene is a set-piece without any transition in between, nobody grows as a character.

You finish watching 4-6, there is automatically a comparison to the trash that's came out recently. No matter how hard I try to not think about it, it always comes after that initial joy.

The corporate approaches, the formulaic camera angles and lighting, the rip off's of original characters to make more money and produce memberberries (the ball R2 for example). But really whenever it is talked about it is reopening the wound that was first made when TLJ came out. The Force Awakens was horrible, but really it was TLJ that really put the nail in the coffin for me personally. And this new trailer was more like, "yeah i just really dont care anymore" and me being able to think that was really sad initially, but also really relieving because to be honest we all have to move away from this garbage.

This is something that I'm not sure I understand. There were a lot of very good Star Wars books. There was good continuity and a lot of well-written, genuinely interesting plots and subplots spanning many authors over many years. I remember being disappointed - REALLY disappointed - when I heard Solo would not at all draw upon the backstory that had been written and fleshed out in the 80s... because every book involving Han Solo that touched on his past at all used it for continuity. I remember seeing the theatrical re-release of Ep 4-6 and hoping beyond hope that they'd do his Corporate Sector trilogy.

But yeah, I don't understand. They have access to so much good intellectual property, I have wondered if the people making the decisions only saw parts of the prequel trilogy and just came up with everything else on their own.

Yes and no. I view the first film as an underdog that went against the grain and succeeded on its own. The second is one of the greatest sequels and fantasy films of all time. Pretty much ever since RotJ, they've just been trying to milk the namesake for profit in any way they can.

Ep 2 definitely sucked, but as the other dude said, I enjoyed ep 3 unironically.
Ep 1 was fub, although goofy, but it felt like a star wars flick - new characters, new landscapes, and a bit of backstory. Kinda like the 1st episode of GoT S8, it puts you in the mood of what's to come.
Movies always boil down to a handful of tropes/patterns, and star wars is always good vs evil if you strip it down to it's core. The setting and character portrayal in a movie of that kind is what makes it good/bad, and clearly the sequela are sub par in that regard because they are a bad copy of the originals

Let me put it this way, I will not be seeing IX nor any future movies ever again
