that's a good point, at range I'd probably go with the rifle. for home invasion and concealed carry I'd definitely go with a big ol' crossbow and a belt full of knives. that said I don't live in a shitty country full of gangsters and crazy homeless people so this is somewhat of an conjectural discussion on my part.

UK laws are pretty restrictive on the things even with a license. We are only allowed 2 shells for a shotgun and they expire. Rifles I think are no better either.
