what's it like living with down syndrome
how??
you multiply first then divide??
17
5
16 / 2[8-3(2)] + 1
explain
You do the brackets then the curved brackets, then the division, then the addition.
Yep
5
Invalid syntax
Parenthesis first
Sort by Nesting Order, which one is the most parenthesized? 4-2
4-2 = 2
[8-3*2]
Multiplication first
3*2=6
[8-6] = 2
16 / 2*2 + 1
Multiplication and Division are done left to right
16/2=8
8*2=16
16+1=17
17
this is why i have sex with my daughter
She's 20 now and its okay with sex
You're wrong. 4-2=2 first, then 3*2=6, then 8-6=2 inside the brackets. Then 16/2=8, then 8*2=16, then 16+1 = 17.
This is also why the division sign is never used in higher mathematics because it leads to confusing shit like this.

This really depends on how you were taught maths, tbh, this is a shit system of writing and we should all be taught in fractions
It's either 17 or 5, depending on which method you use
>Then 16/2=8
No, 2*(answer) them the 16/answer
theres is only 1 method fucktard
this
In my opinion it should be solved
16/2 = 8
8*8=64
64-3 = 61
61 * 4 = 244
244 - 2 = 242
242 +1 = 243
but
math doesn't work like that
This
Depends on one function but the correct answer is actually 5
The answer is definitely 5.
16 / 2 * (8 - 3 * (4 - 2)) + 1 =
16 / 2 * (8 - 3 * 2) + 1 =
16 / 2 * (8- 6) + 1 =
16 / 2 * 2 + 1 =
16 / 4 +1 =
4 * 1 =
5
PEMDAS
(Parenthesis, Exponent, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction)
start from:
parenthesis & exponent then,
multiplication & division then,
addition & subtraction
Always show your work children, should have learned that in school. Google is wrong due to you not putting the brackets in correctly. Stop relying on google and thinking for yourself

//Degree in Mathematics
I went to 6 different schools as a kid, i learnt at least 3 different ways of interpreting this shit.
16/2^2(2) +1
Multiplication and division are done left to right. 16 ÷ 2(2) is equivalent to 16 ÷ 2 * 2.
who knows, maybe one of my teachers was shit, but regardless it's a shit way of looking at math
2 of them are wrong

You should ask for your money back lmao
5 fuckers
This guy get it
>The ISO 80000-2 standard for mathematical notation recommends only the solidus or fraction bar for division, or the colon for ratios; it says that the obelus "should not be used" for division.
There are multiple standards by which you could interpret your stupid fucking obelus.
This
5fags btfo
You guys realize these are just retarded standards right? The only place where you would see this is a test for kids
dubs dont lie
x
you put in extra parentheses on the calculator, which is proof that the divisor operator is fucking retarded, just like you.
No, that was google automatically rewriting what I put in. Try it yourself.
Ok but, are you Chinese (17) or Japanese (5)
5
cool extra parentheses, brah
>depending on which method
THERE IS BUT ONE CORRECT METHOD
google automatically rewrites the statement to a more standard form. user didn't cheat or doctor that screenshot
the whole parenthesis is divided by two before
5
You are correct - it's using a solidus as in
fuck you
16 / 2 * [8-3(4-2)] + 1
16 / 2 * [8-3(2)] +1
16 / 2 * [8-6] + 1
16 / 2 * 2 + 1
8 * 2 + 1
16 + 1
17
I will nerver found the OC sauce desu
16 / 2 * [8-3(4-2)] + 1
16 / 2 * [8-3(2)] +1
16 / 2 * [8-6] + 1
16 / 2 * 2 + 1
16 / 4 + 1
4 + 1
5
>16 / 2 * 2 + 1
>16 / 4 + 1
That's where you fucked up. Division and multiplication have equal priority and are performed left to right.
16 / 2 * 2 + 1
8 * 2 + 1
16 + 1
17
>Division and multiplication have equal priority
nah
fucking retard, multiplication and division are done left to right.
you don't do multiplication first nor division first, it's whichever one is further left in the problem
I mean not in THIS case
Yes, they do.
Wrong, when you remove the brackets you also preform the multiplication at the same time. So the multiplication is done before the division.
???????????????
this is right.

Bait. This equation is poorly formulated. There's a reason proper mathematicians never use that shit division sign.
Why the FUCK haven't you joined this server yet?
