I don't like people dying, but that was their choice, not yours. Them trying to put the blame on you is just a prolonging of their efforts to abuse you.
They deserved a long time in jail for harming others for such a long time.
And your effort did save that kid a lot of trauma. It probably saved his life. To me that one act of yours makes your entire life meaningful and important.
