Sure, but it's not a craving for the effect of nicotine, it's the craving for the act of smoking, to occupy your idle hands. I can chill with people while they're smoking and feel absolutely zero urge to smoke. It's only when I'm drunk and feeling out of place that I feel the urge to smoke. And every time I do I'm thoroughly disappointed with it. Tastes and feels bad in the moment and afterward.

You're definitely exaggerating about stench. Lot of people like the smell of Tobacco, including many non smokers. It has a earthy aroma that hey, doesn't smell bad. It does, however, smell "different" from what many are accustomed to, and when combined with the idea of "unhealthiness", that's when it gets a rap for smelling "bad".

We can perceive smells as good or bad based solely on the idea of whether it has a healthy or non-healthy association. Regardless of how a neutral interpretation would garner.
