Well, North Korea is a neighbor to China, just like the Vietnam was. And China has the atomic bomb, so nuking them is out of the question. Which means that you could only go with conventional warfare.
Now, of course, you CAN raze the whole country with conventional bombs, but that would kinda defeat the point (also, if there is no population, infrastructure, and nature, left, China can bomb you to hell too, afterwards, without even a second thought).
So, no, you'd need troops on the ground. And that means casualties, which the opinion isn't ready to accept. Also, INTERNATIONAL opinion, which already doesn't hold the US in high regard, would blame you. Which means lost opportunities in diplomacy, and possibly some countries turning to Russia, China, or the EU for protection.
That's why nobody in their right mind (except, maybe, China) will fuck Kim over.
