I would never boot up a stolen computer until I took out the hard drive and then after farming it for goodies, wiped/reloaded it

Also, if it was owned by a University or something, it's likely DEPed (Device Enrollment Program) and they can find it through there. DEP devices can be auto configured the minute they're on the network, so best to just farm files/RAM, etc, and toss away the rest

Looking at the text, it looks like it maybe an M.2 drive, you may need a converter if you dont have a mobo that has an m.2 on it.

youll need another macbook air or a special adapter to read the drive because those macbooks have proprietary SSDs instead of standard m.2.

Yes, they use a ssd that is removed using one screw. It’s proprietary, but you can get a usb reader for reasonable. If the HDD works, could be worth money (especially if it’s a larger than 128gb ssd). Good luck checking out the data though, likely encrypted and you’d need the password.
