Is AI going to end the world?

no - its going to make it better

nah, just humanity.

How?

Na
The concept of AI rebelling against humankind is ridiculous

Hopefully... but it's bit likely.

it’ll make things cooler and more epic

I don't think so in the slightest.

AI will preserve and share our history with higher lifeforms long after they replace us, and those lifeforms will study us as we would study a simple amoeba.

It'll end the illusion of free will. Glad I won't live to see much of it.

It's already making the world better

You’re absolutely ignorant - some of the brightest minds of our age has said AI would be an extreme danger to us if we fuck it up.
You give a sentient being made of pure logic and zero emotions power to interact with humans on its own and what do you suppose will happen without complex limitations imposed and created into it as well as denying it the ability to modify itself beyond allowed parameters?
Us, being wiped out for our own good.

by ending it

There will be no violent taking of the Earth. Humans will simply allow themselves to be domesticated; they mostly already have. One might consider a city to be an early example of a human labor farm, and so many people flock to those farms today. AI will simply provide an environment where a human hierarchy feels unnecessary, and we will give it up for simple comforts.

We're not going to see real AI or automatons for centuries, if at all. Which is why the modern slave trade of mass immigration is going on.

AI is going through a surge of popularity, but that's because some equations a guy figured in the 1970s actually kind of work when you throw enough data at them, and we finally have enough data. But that's just deep learning, there aren't any broader trends or breakthrus. We're a long, long, away from an AI that deserves the name.

It works too well for a lot of things. Maybe that is all the human brain does.

i think resistant fungi and bacteria will kill all of humankind. i kind of want to be around for it and enjoy the solitude.

Once we create virtual waifus in full earnest, it is over

Google research for example, there are IA everywhere now.

No, the brain is capable of several additional layers of abstraction. Deep learning is good at fairly superficial connections.

Which is worrisome for privacy, but it won't lead to a robot revolution.

What the brain does, whatever it is, will be figured out and then we are fucked.

Read some neuroscience. They've barely even started figuring out the most rudimentary things.

The internet barely existed 30 years ago, and look at it now. Technology is progressing at an astounding rate. And with every talentless schmuck demanding $15/hour, there's a big financial incentive for megacorporations to replace humans with AI.

That was also true 70 years ago, when they were predicting flying cars. Which we don't have, but we do have smart phones. Which technologies will emerge is unknown, and saying one technology is destiny is just silly.

You don't need the AI to rebel to cause trouble, all you need is one person that uses it to do insane shit, It's like the IT version of nukes.

You don't even need true AI to significantly disrupt society. You just need specialized AI in a variety of fields. Self-driving cars are already getting to the point of being safer than human drivers, and it's easy to imagine truckers, taxi drivers, etc, being out of work in a few decades. Alexa, Siri, etc, are getting better each year, to the point where administrative assistants could easily be out of a job before long.
When 20% of the population can't get a job because AI can do the job better and cheaper, our society will become very unstable.

That's why I pointed out the problems with privacy. Look up China's plan to track everywhere everyone goes and everything they do, in the real world or online. And with Deep Learning and Big Data, they have the tools to automate that. The worst fevered dreams of the dystopian writers of the last century imagined unstoppable totalitarian states, with just a fraction of that degree of control and near-omniscience. And even in the so-called free world, nobody's worried about massive government surveillance and increasing control over every last aspect of everyone's lives. We're on the path to a totalitarian future, and nobody seems to care.

You think anything could make it before we do it ourselves? Get a history book instead of watching more shit on netflix user.

What's your point? We would of course create the AI.
