I have a bigass camper van I need to get from Vermont to California. Due to its size shipping is more expensive than simply driving it because it won't ship on a multi car carrier.
So, what can I haul with me and get paid for to absolve my driving expense? Will cost about $1,300 in fuel.

3000 miles at .57 per mile = $1,710. Add to that any tolls, camp ground fees, and that it will take 4 to 5 days of labor to drive it. Plus the cost for you to get to Vermont to get it in the first place.

Seems unlikely that you will come ahead fixing it up yourself. Better off going to work at a job for those days instead.

Could be obvious, but have you tried craigslist yet? There are a few other sites that function similarly as well that you could find, I don't recall their names off the top of my head.
I see ads on my local CL all the time from people looking to ship items, all kinds of shit. You could at least test the waters and see if someone needs something transported to Cali and if its beneficial for you both.
Another obvious option would be people who could use a ride to Cali, depending on if you're up for company or not. The normal no-duh at least mini-vetting would be required so they aren't tweakers, sex workers, or someone planning on fucking your butt.
Definitely don't transport drugs, it wouldn't be worth it for either the dealer or you, both financially and risk-wise.

Re: people, there are ride-sharing websites and some of those dudes pay, so it wouldn't necessarily have to be a full vermont to cali trip for your riders, you could pick some up/drop some off along the way.

If I just sell it as is for whatever I can I'll probably only get like 6k for it. It needs shocks, brakes, ball joint, exhaust, new shower pan, some body touch up. If I do that work myself I can sell it for 12k and keep most of the money.... But it needs to physically be with me for me to do the work. If I pay someone else to do that work it will easily negate the added value.
