watch a metric fuckton of anime

well more like practice common vocab and basic grammar ALOT then watch a fuckton of anime
manga is great for learning to read japanese, especially stuff like k-on that’s relatively simple and is mostly just normal conversation

it was a joke but ok

well now I feel like an idiot

i mean idk it could work

Where can I learn the basic stuff then?
Can you recommend some resources?

duolingo is good if you want something easy to access and use

Suck jap cock

Ok real talk serious advice that really works.
Watch an anime episode then after a short while watch the episode again but move the window down so that it cuts off the subtitles at the bottom. Since u already watched it you basically know what all the characters are saying but without subtitles you naturally pick up a ton of new vocab and grammar. try it

Move to Japan u will eventually have to figure it out and get good

k-on

google translate

First learn the kana, then
anki+imabi(or tae kim if you cant stomach imabi)+primary sources like anime, but also drama, news, magazines, etc. Also, try to find people to practice it with. That's probably the most important thing, but obviously you need to know some japanese already. Best case scenario? Hire a tutor at some point. Unironically /jp/'s japanese thread is the best place to start. Follow their guide.

This is unironically THE strategy. I always went with what other people said about learning vocab independently first but I would only come out remembering a few words. When I started just watching anime only, I would come out with way more words.
I actually read something about this one time. Apparently it has something to do with seeing the word used in context as opposed to just a definition in a dictionary, a lot easier to remember that way.

no jap language

seconding these, here's some resources:

México stands revealed

duolingo's course is kinda fucking ass

this isn't too bad
a few real issues you'll face are having proper translations and then accents giving trouble, but the former is a big issue early on, and the latter makes it hard to look shit up, especially if the the subs for the show you're watching suck

but you get a ton of listening experience and you get to relax and watch anime
