There's no fucking way I'd make the money I make today had I not gone to college. Not for the coursework, per se. But the network never would've been available to me. I raised my societal status measurably due to the opportunities provided to me by way of my undergraduate degree.

I went to college after 10 years in the work force doing IT, and seeing people with LESS experience and knowledge than I had getting paid 30% more.

So what'd I do?

Went to a local community college for two years. Paid basically $5000/yr, if that. Got my associates, and a few certs. Transferred to a "big name" college with all my credits, and since I'd been in the work force for 12 years, they gave me "real life" credit so I didn't have to take a fuckton of bullshit liberal arts classes.

End of the day, I got my comp-sci for, all told, about $25k, not counting the "adult education" grants for a few thousand here and there and the ones the college gave me (Northeastern).

Going whole hog right out of high school, NOT applying for local and government scholarships, not going after local and government grants, just taking out a fuck load of loans? THAT is stupid, that is a scam.
