Is this a good book
Is this a good book
Uhhh. It is if you can stand to read all of it. Frank is really frustrating in how he describes a lot of things. Expect to be confused about lots of things. Otherwise yes.
Don't read any of the sequels, they're horrendous
That one is pretty good, but there's a steady drop off in quality with each book after.
got it on audiobook, its a good listen during the daily commute
i read it
p good
Lik bit dull and childish, buy not bad. If youre into scifi shit better try P.Dick as a start.
its okay
didnt like arabic-like made up words during the narratives and prose
gonna advise only reading dune, all prequels and sequels take away from the main
Dune Messiah and Children of Dune are alright. Different pacing, but good in their own way.
got a first edition of dune, nobody is getting it. ever.
honestly prefer his books whipping star and dosadi experiment tho
This is also a good book
This.
Supposedly.
I picked up a copy second-hand a while back, read maybe the first 2 chapters, got bored, then it went on my bookshelf and hasn't been off since
watch the movie then play Dune 2 through the Atredies campaign
No
The first one was good.
It's more fantasy than sci/fi; the science is pretty sketchy. That's what ultimately turned me off. I was being asked to believe things I knew couldn't possibly exist.
(You might try reposting this in /lit)
I prefer movies.
all the Dune books are hard to get in to there very slow and dry it just depends on what kinda book u like
>2019
>reading books
That appears to be the cover to the 1979 game from Avalon Hill (?). An extremely good game.
I actually got my copy of White Plague signed by Herbert!! :D
I'm guessing you are neither very bright nor well educated, and if American, a Trump supporter.
Yeah, but I wonder how it would go over to a first-time reader now, when a lot of the borrwed culture of jihads and shit is no longer exotic and unknown.
No, the third is much better than the second, so the drop-off varies.
I got a copy of the trilogy in one volume signed by him. My then-fiance waited in line at a London bookstore for hours and surprised me with it.
She's pretty good.
I voted for Trump and have read hundreds of books. Very bigoted of you. Dune is pretty good, you have to read the whole series to get the big picture though. The one offs written by his son are quite good as well.
Alastair Reynolds also has several good books out. I thought the ones I read were really good.
it's set in like 20,000 years in the future
at that point it's all fantasy
I read a hundred books, in first grade
come back when you're in the tens of thousands
His first 5-6 books were great now not so much. With the elephants going into space and all that studity
"Acting" in the AB is terrible. It’s a hard listen
Much better than gaming 24/7. I like to read them in the winter when you don't have any time after work before it gets dark outside. Try it sometime.
Tens of thousands? I'm sure you have Data
One of the greatest SF noivels.
Politics, environmentalism, religion are it's concerns. The science is theoretical and is tertiary to the other purposes.
Enjoy rereading.
...
It is excellent. I would avoid the rest of the series though.
Also excellent
I saw him at a mall before the release of the Dune movie in '84. My dad and I went. I bought a paperback book. I should have gone w/hardback.
That’s because Frank Herbert died before the first book was ever even officially published. He went to his grave not realizing it have become an icon of SF.
All subsequent books were written by staff writers at Putnam, his publisher. His estate sued to have his son’s name added as the “official” writer of record, but he is actually a recluse, but because he’s the only male child the rest of the family thought the name would sell more books.
Yea Forums is random it can be anything including books Yea Forums Nazi
You must be of an age as myself.
yes -its big on ideas
the book is OK - there are other comments describing the difficulties with the book and i have sympathy with these comments. the movie is a good interpretation and considering the date of production - is visually very very good. its in my top 15 defo - depending on list revisions it might creep into top 10 movies
This book is great too. The concepts in it are similar to Interstellar without MUUURRRFFFF
It's worth it just for the quotes about life and how societies work
At an estimate of 1-2k books over the course of 20 years I have to agree
Dune messiah and COD of fucking great you u nigger
>tens of thousands
>1-2k books over the course of 20 years
10,000÷2000=5
5×20=100
How old is this wizard? At least 100 already and it's implied that he's at least 200 with tens of thousands
also Dune was pretty decent.. made for great inspiration for star wars. I like Lovecraft more tho
I read all of the frank herbert books twice. I found them fascinating.
It's still ten times more realistic than Star Trek or Star Wars.
