FPS: Counterstrike, Quake1
RTS: AOE2, Red Alert, Total Annihilation
Sim: Sim City 2, The Sims
Flight: The Starwars Space flight series. and Microsoft flight sim 99

I would have to give john carmack, ken silverman, chris sawyer, will wright and jim sweeney all credit for bringing us the greatest titles. if you had to pick one I would say quake 1, literally still games to this day running a good amount of that code.

Early 90s: Descent or anything apogee/ID software or Sierra or Microprose...
Gta2 was fun as hell
When I was a substitute teacher I let kids play quake on the school computers

check'd

In no particular order:
Dungeon Keeper
Baldur's Gate
C&C (all up till tiberium sun)

Quake and Mech Warrior 2. The early days of ladder tournament play for FPS's was so great. IRC for strategy pre-voice. Good times.

Quake 2 Soundtrack. Get some nostalgia!

There's a Duke Nukem mod for one of the Croteam games on VR, and I downloaded the wolfenstein 3d game that someone made. If you want a fresh look at that shit, check it out.
