Not sure if being here helps my depression, honestly I have a bad addiction to the internet.
Many factors contribute to my depression though I'd say the fact that no one has had a real conversation with me in months and all my "friends" ignore me or insult me has contributed greatly.

Of course. Yea Forums is known to people as a place where only social losers hang out, but there are plenty of very intelligent and nice people here. Not everyone who seems racist or offensive here is truly racist. Many of them are just trolling. I personally come here because this is the last true centre of honesty on the internet. People can be whoever they want and voice any opinions they want. This leads to some very interesting things. And of course, if you stay long enough these faggots start to feel like family. We try to keep each other from killing ourselves. There's one user who does a feels thread everyday. It's a nice place if you can deal with the constant shitposting and the porn.

It's interesting that you bring up honesty. Do you really believe that allowing people to be honest is at the center of Yea Forums culture's mission statement? The article is actually about people who grew up with the internet as their main form of socialization, and what effects that can have on someone's ability to function in normal society. The main woman who I'm talking to claims to be traumatized by Yea Forums. From the research, I've done, the time I've spent 'lurking' and the experts I've spoken to, I believe her.

I'm reporting on spec, meaning I don't know whether or not I'll get picked up by a major outlet. The way it's turning out though, I doubt it'll get picked up. I just like seeing things through to their conclusion.

I think some people who hold horrible beliefs value the anonymity and gravitate to this place, I think others embrace the novelty of being able to say anything without consequence, I don't think their's malice behind it, but if you say a slur enough times, do you start to normalize the views it represents? I don't know.

It seems like the 'normal internet world feels increasingly antiseptic and unwelcoming to basically everyone. If you make the wrong kind of bad joke on twitter, you lose your job (See: Justine Sacco). Here, it's maybe the last place on the internet where no one knows you're a dog.

Why am I here? Well, mostly pornography. I find the willingness of people to share their insane fetishes refreshing. But aside from that, I'm still here because the alternative is ignorance. You are writing an article, you are going to direct more people to this site. People will want to see what traumatized her, they will click here, feel disgust, and most will never come back.
