Really, the old guard of the media are just aging bachelor uncles with their restored dune buggies, goatees and driving caps, known by all, liked by some but needed by none. They can tell you what's funny, or current, or scary, but they've thrown away their power to spin grand narratives and dictate reality, to pull down your pants at the tender age of 6 and tell you what sex is every night for the rest of your life, even when they're not there.
Kurtzman was a showman, certainly good at parties, and he made the most easily entertained generation of Americans lel. Hearst, Murrow, Cronkite and their ilk, meanwhile, were linguosexual planeswalkers who thrust their idioms into the West's head and told it what it was looking at, forever.
