I own one, didn't want to but the wife brought her home one day. She's a good dog but I still hate the breed.

It's mostly down to the owner. Still, I would never trust a pit alone with children. But I wouldn't leave any large dogs alone with children. The risk is just too much.

Are you retarded? That breed was selectively bred for countless generations to feel less pain than regular dogs, as well as have a crushing bite that doesn't let go. It doesn't matter if the breed is inherently bad or not, they were specifically made to fight.

That just means they'll be good at it, not that they'll be more likely to do it. If you're worried about your dog hurting you/your family/other pets then get one of those breeds that fits in your purse.

If my labrador bites my kid, then the kid was doing something to annoy the dog, and the dog will get punished.
If my pit bull bites my kid, we're having a funeral.

1) they feel pain
2) their bite isn’t stronger than a lot of dogs they just have more muscular necks and jaws so they are able to hang on while they are being shaken(originally by the bull they were baiting then others dogs)
3) they were bred for bull baiting not fighting. So were English Bulldogs though and look at them now. Breeds change as the needs change

I don’t advocate owning one and I think most people who do are assholes. I think the same way about guns too. I own both a “pit bull”( although mine was properly bred and in his 12 years of life has never even growled at another dog or person) and a gun. But I am responsible. It’s the rest of you I don’t trust.

I read an interview with a dog trainer once and the question of if pit bulls can ever be good pets came up. His answer was basically no. The problem is the weird way they perceive the world. If the owner shows weakness to the dog once - even in some way that only the dog would perceive, like losing a tug of war playfight - the dog will never respect you again. Which means that it will think nothing of killing you, because you're a weak pack member.

In other words, they are complete psychopaths that fear nothing. Good luck keeping that on a leash.

I have a pit mix we rescued before age 1. Mostly pit. That dog is dumb as a rock. The first few years of his life he was hyper aggressive and tried to kill everything that wasn't our family. But as time went on he mellowed out. At age 5 he only tries to kill approx 30% of all people and animals he meets. That's pretty good odds.
We want him as a guard dog anyway.

All of the stats show that this breed is a bad risk. I definitely don't want to be either on the business end of a lawsuit if my pit kills a child OR be planning a funeral for my own child if my pit up and decides that my child needs killing.

I like them, but the people who but them (as well as most large, working breeds) generally have no appreciation for the size of the obligation they're taking on. Those types of dogs demand a strong and knowledgeable owner, but what they usually get is a borderline retard with no physical or moral authority. It's a fucking travesty.

Have seen only one completely docile pit bull ever. Pure white, female, extremely small, thin, almost ballerina like dog, but she was a pit mixed with something. Very timid and shy, but so well behaved.

Every other pit bull, forget it.

In fact, was attacked by pitbulls charging out of a home, they started with me, but a coworker intervened, and he got mauled instead. Bit all over, even his chochkies!

That's when I realized most pit bull owners are shitheads. Throughout the investigation and hearing, they insisted the pitbulls were tame and sweet and rode with all the neighborhood kids.

The county animal control and local police had over 20 complaints of their pit bulls roaming free and attacking the neighborhood.

They did not euthanize those dogs. They should have in that instance.

I'm still traumatized.

If there's pitbulls in your neighborhood, best get a body cam or go pro and security cameras for your home in case of an attack.

We tried, but it was 3 of them, huge, heavy, we sprayed them, hit them, the works, but when they get you on the ground and there's more than 2 of them, they do a swirling attack.

I have a career as a dog trainer and can say i've never had an issue with a pit that i havent seen in a lab or GSD

Dogs have two modes when presented with a fear.
Fight or flight, so most bites that are caused are usually motivated by fear and fear is one of the strongest motivators when it comes to dogs. Chihuahuas are small and a lot of them know it and unfortunately the most of them resort to fight to make themselves seem tougher. Kinda like a cobra posturing himself tall when met with a threat. Then theres also the small dog complex where they think they are the size of a normal dog but that usually gets fixed easily with training
