Pretty much. There were two types of people who went to Nam:
1. Those who came from military backgrounds. Some truly thought Communism had to be confined & defeated, others were already in the military because of their family's tradition (think a Lt. Dan type) and just to happened to be serving when a war began.
2. The poor sons of bitches who got drafted, sent off to a faraway land, and told to go find and kill an enemy who couldn't be identified a good part of the time.

In the end, both of those groups merged into one because they were subjected to the same horrors and same horrible treatment when they returned home. I've never seen a split among Vietnam veterans where those who volunteered looked down upon those who were drafted, or vice versa. They may have differing opinions on if the war was justified, but all of them were just glad it ended and don't want to see a repeat of it (which Afghanistan and Iraq were becoming like but those were all volunteers.)
