If I ever had children I'd let em play Age of Empires 2. You learn so much about historic civilizations just by playing it plus learning how to build an economy. Oh and Starcraft of course was the bomb.

It really depends on if you prefer relevant history to science fiction, I prefer both really. But both focus strongly on economics so it doesn't matter which one you like, it's a great way to teach a young mind to think

Gotta say that in terms of aestethics japanese and byzantines for different reasons have the best looking cities. Chinese and Japanese houses and buildings are too much similar tho. Too late now, but they should have created a more vast archive of pics to make the game a little bit more deep from the aestethic point of wiew. Still a masterpiece for its time.
