I spent a year fucking around on FNV, with all the gameplay mods, quest mods, and porn mods. Especially "A Tale Of Two Wastelands" that recreates Fallout 3 in the FNV engine and lets you play through both games with a single character (even taking a train back and forth between east and west coast). But then I started Skyrim about six months ago and I don't think I'll be able to go back to FNV. Not only does the game just look so much smoother but the combat is much better. Being able to equip both arms separately, shields, spells, and ranged combat is actually a challenge without VATS. Also the fact that the fantasy setting omits the single worst problem with Fallout: having to shoot someone in the face with a shotgun more than once.

it is without a doubt one of the greatest games of all time, but you can't possibly claim it to be the greatest

we're all well aware of its flaws, namely the engine it runs in, but more importantly it wasn't revolutionary in any way. it was very much the standard fallout rpg experience and there's nothing wrong with that at all, in fact to have that more old school rpg experience in a more modern game is what made it so great

but when I think of the greatest games of all time, those are games that pushed the limits of game design and became defining titles of their genre. games lime world of warcraft, doom, civilization, heroes 3... the list goes on

imo new vegas is a nostalgia trip wearing flashy new clothes and I love every second of it, but it doesn't make it the greatest of all time, not even the greatest of its genre

KOTOR definitely deserves a mention.

I'd add Civ5, Stellaris, Master of Orion 2, Tiberium Sun, and Red Alert 2 from strategy games.

Wing Commander: Privateer was the shit. Way ahead of its time. Rest of the franchise up to and excluding WC5 and Privateer 2 was great too.

Of the shooters: Doom, Duke 3D, Quake 3, UT 2k4, and TF2 all deserve a nod.
