Animals missing eyes are actually pretty common. My wife is a veterinary nurse so we get all the sob stories.
Example: this is Nadia. Her (Mexican) owners bought her in a parking lot and insisted she eat from the same bowl as their (very food aggressive) German Shepard. They waited a fill 6 hours before bringing her to the vet then bounced when they saw the estimate.

This is after her eye was reinserted, but they ended up taking it.

Someone brought this kitten to the clinic, said they found him in the gutter. It was summer here in Texas, about 103°F but I will never forget how cold he was. Wife just got off work and rushed him home in her bra for warmth (nothing the docs could/would do). All we could do was get him warm. By the time the heating pad was warming up he stopped breathing. I did CPR and brought him back, but only for a couple minutes. I did CPR for another 30min before Kate made me stop. There was no saving him. I took this picture so I would never forget. Cried for days. He was so cold.

This was Domino. We had him for about 10 days before he died. His mom was killed by a car. His brother was perfectly healthy but Domino had an eye infection we couldn't kick and he had trouble pooping no matter how we massaged him or what we gave him. He was playful and friendly but still sickly. We never left him alone but he passed in the afternoon. Autopsy showed he had some genetic disorder that left his intestines twisted and blocked. Nobody could have known and he probably wouldn't have survived surgery at his age.

This is Jasper. He was raised on a farm but was never ridden so was rather...unruly. Ate like a fucking pig, too, but was super friendly once he trusted you. My boss bought him for $300 but was gonna send him to slaughter because he was so troublesome. I convince him to give it some time and between the two of us he became a really good roping horse. Then the boss couldn't afford to keep him. I wanted to buy him but didn't have the land at the time. He was sold to boss's sister but she was negligent and he stopped listening, eventually kicked her and bruised her leg real bad (she was 63) and she sold him and I've not heard of him since.

You need to stay on top of horses to keep their trust and attention.

This is Arthur.
Some Mexican kid (maybe 6) found him in the bushes and ran up to my wife asking if he was hers. He had a huge cut in his back and was deeply dehydrated.
They gave him a subdermal shot of fluids and we bottle fed him every few hours for weeks. He was 1.3lbs when we got him.

He made a full recovery and is my wife's baby. We free feed and is is the only fat animal we have. But he's healthy other than that and we feel like he deserves to be fat. He plays the older brother to all the kittens we take in. He loves everyone, but is skiddish still.

Horses and cows are basically dogs in personality. They grow just as attached but they're like parrots in that they're too smart to be caged. Ever see a video of a horse in a stall nodding it's head up and down really fast? Or walking around in circles/pacing? That's distress from boredom. It's serious and they can and will become self destructive. Hurting themselves, etc. They're not as smart as parrots, mind you, but you try staying in a small room for weeks/months on end with no interaction with other living things and no toys. This is Charlie (named him after the RHCP song - it fits his personality). He was brought to the clinic with 8 other kittens from 5 different litters. 3 of them died within a day from being away from their mom (it's a thing, look it up) and the other techs were retarded and didn't put them in a warm cage. Kate saw this and I'm rushed them home. Charlie and 3 others were roughly the same age (eyes closed) and they were put with a kitten about 3 weeks older (a big boy I named Lou after ferrigno). Lou had patches of fur missing all over which turned out to be from the other kittens suckling him because they couldn't see and we're starving. We had another kitten the same age at the time named Henry (found in the engine bay of an F150) and they all got along. I don't have picture if them anymore because my SD card died but they were all cute af. They had a long bout with roundworm (which I ended up getting) but they all found great homes.

Charlie is my cat though. Fucker found a saltine somehow and woke me up this morning by eating it on my head.

Also, the dog in the background is Teddy. He's a double Murrell so he's deaf. We got him from a rescue. Wife had a deaf dog growing up so she's familiar with their care. They're super difficult to home but my wife wants to keep him so it's no problem.

whats like the major difficulties tho? ive always been curious about deaf pets. for me it wouldve been impossible for the extra care of any "special need" pet, but I love the ones who put in the effort tho.

It's important that I tell you these cats are super well behaved. We've never trained them in any way. They don't like going to the vet, and they'll scream and holler about it, but they'll never bite or scratch. Willeaux likes to smack people in the face though. Her aim is to knock off glasses. But take blood all you want: they never get aggressive. There's never a fight between them or the dogs. We're FIRMLY against declawing yet they never scratch up furniture. There's no secret beyond being loving and attentive. Cats want to please you just like a dog does. Build a good relationship and they'll do anything for you. And there's only me and Kate here for all these animals. We both work full time, so it's not like you have to spend 15 hours a day with them. Just be there and be accessible.

Diabetic animals are the hardest to deal with and require tons of care and attention, but deaf pets aren't really hard. They just spook easy. You need to pay more attention to them to make sure they don't get lost or hurt themselves. You do need to treat them different, but it's really just common sense: remember that they can't hear you and act accordingly. It's not hard, but is daunting to the average person for some reason.

This is Billy (after Billy Joel because he has this weirdly long singing meow when he wants attention).
Kate's coworker saw a pregnant cat wandering around her parking lot, so we grabbed her and once she was tested for diseases we took her home to have her kittens. Everything went well, and we found homes for everyone...except Billy. And he got really depressed about his family leaving within days of each other. Wouldn't do anything at all for months. But then we got Fletcher, a stray I convinced to come inside, and now they're inseparable. Billy's come out of his she'll and is a regular ham. Very chill. Cautious, but curious. Still sings every day. Asks for cuddles at 3am every night.

This is Bean. I found her in the dead center of the highway on a cold rainy day in November at rush hour. It was quite the Benny Hill scene grabbing her. She evidently fell out of an engine bay with a few scrapes and a befuckled jaw (probably whack by a radiator fan). Her adult teeth came in fine though. Found her a home with a young veterinarian.

This is Jackson (and my wife).
We got him when he was about 6 months. He's got pretty bad valgus deformity and is a pit so we've not been able to home him. He was get in a crate 100% before we got him. Giant pussy - came home and a cat swiped at him (from 6ft away) and he ran to the corner and cried for 5 minutes.

Super loveable but is pretty stupid. Has a very thin coat so really likes to sleep under the covers with us, but is always too nervous to ask.

This is me and my boyfriend Major Vichyssoise (I didn't name him). We got him from a rescue when he was maybe a year old. Nobody would take him because he was so rambunctious. He can be a grump in his old age, and arthritis is getting him now, but beyond that he's ridiculously healthy. No back problems or dysplasia. His favorite hobby is herding chickens and going on rides.

Meowseph here was pawned off on me by a coworker, used to be a stray in some really shitty development round here. Took it in as a kitten, wasn't cute no more so I accepted him after they got got me drunk and agreeable. Little faggot arrived the next day as I'm hungover and not remembering shit until I see the too small pet carrier. It was terrified and covered in its piss. Dude rinses it off in my shower with cold water. "Welcome to your new home asshole!" I am just 'what the fuck man' as he dumps off all this cat stuff and ghosts. Luckily for this cat, I was raised by crazy animal lovers and had him purring on his back in an hour.

That was ten years ago. Fucker is laying between my feet now.

Willeaux is a diluted tortoise shell (torbie). Not a breed so much as a color. Wife says your cat is a normal domestic short hair (like Willeaux) but looks to be solid grey, which is expressing straight black but with the diluted gene, making him grey.

Wife says he's super handsome. He's apparently a "classic/mackerel" tabby.
I'd take her work on this. She's autistically into genetics.
