If another dog has a mate or food it will attack the other dog to establish dominance, it does this with all dogs in its terrority so it remains the alpha dog. When a baby is getting food it is just a nuisance but when the mate suddenly does not submit to the alpha the baby usually get killed. When a new dog comes around it is also usually forced to submit to all the other pack members until dominance is established. This is easily solved when you have already established dominance with the other members, but dogs also wait until they can single out certain challengers so they have certainty of remaining alpha. If you leave a baby alone with a pitbull its going to get fucking bit its not a matter of if its a matter of when the pitbull feels like dealing with it.
