The vast majority of people do not find happiness. I look around and I see a bunch of people who don't like their job, don't like their family, don't like their self image, and don't like their life. We all just kind of collectively are forced to deal with it. I could count on one hand the amount of adult men who like their wives that I've met irl and I'm 25. Pretty much everyone is miserable and broke and we were all sold out decades ago by companies and people that think asking people to spend upwards of 60% of their waking life doing absolutely unrewarding drudgery just to get enough money to scrape by.
I genuinely can't see a reason to be anything besides miserable if you're an atheist like I am. It's all completely pointless. Really the only way out of this is to be born with Chad or Stacy genetics and even then, EVEN THEN aside from everything we are jealous of Chad and Stacy for, they are probably fucking miserable too and their life is probably bogged down by tons of drama and social issues that we largely don't have to deal with because we tend to interact with people as little as possible.
I agree with most of what you say. I was lucky and found an awesome wife.
Besides that, you are right, everything is pointless.
Justin Bailey
Humans are kind of ingrained to be always a little dissatisfied, though. It's what keeps us going. And happiness is pretty tough for most. So you're not saying much that's new.
But the real trick is to find out what exactly is bothering you and take actions to fix it. And even if it doesn't fix anything, the pursuit of it alone can make someone happy. So, set up some goals that are meaningful to you and go after them. If you don't or won't, then you've only yourself to blame
And for some reason you've also mixed corporations and money into this whole muddled mess. I think it's less about that than you think, since some of the happiest countries are some of the poorest. You'd do well to take lessons from that.
So now with all of that jibber-jabber done with, I ask you: what do YOU want?
Camden Gutierrez
I grew tired of of the pursuit of happiness and I’m slowly making my own the best I know how. I decided to live a simpler life. I have a internet connection and that’s about the most tech I have. People want instant gratification, I know I did. Then I realized that I was becoming a prude living paycheck to paycheck. I still do but I’m slowly changing that and saving for an acre of land because this city life will kill anybody. I guess my form of happiness would be to do work that I could be proud of because it’s going to help me live my life away from the constant controversy that is human life.
Dominic Evans
Well you figured out the first part of the world. Everyone is as miserable as you, the difference is what are you going to do about it?
When it comes to money 95% of people are fucking retarded. Educate yourself with books and lectures, and learn how to manage money to live a correct life and retirement. I'm 23 with a MSA, I have no student debt, no car note, and I do not pay rent I live with my parents. I know that I have to save money in order to make investments not for tomorrow, not 5 years from now, but you need 30-40 years from now. Kids our age go and get themselves in debt with insane amounts over the dumbest shit. So think hard, sacrifice, save money, invest money, grow money. That's all it takes, also I'm married, don't find a girl who isn't on your level, or a girl who only uses you. Find someone who will sacrifice themselves and change themselves for you, and know you will have to do the same. And that's how you find a good partner, not solely because of "love." Good luck.

Being an atheist is even more freeing if you ask me.. The moment your aware happiness just relies on chemical firings and neurons that can be stimulated and manipulated, you can drop the philosophy and start figuring out what stimulates and manipulates them..
Dude i love my shitty job. It makes me love my evenings and weekends. Shits gotta suck or you cant enjoy what's good.
Isaac Brooks
>being a shitskin atheist retard, if you're going to live half a life and wonder why you're depressed it's you're own fucking fault. look into Rupert Sheldrake. in particular his beliefs in spirituality and human happiness. of course, spirituality isn't for every one and almost every single religion has been watered down and pacified (except for the obvious scum) and corrupted, but the validity of being accepted in a group of people and feeling 'unconditional love' from the community is why so many religious people are happier than atheists. name one happy atheist.
Yup. Biggest driving force in my life was having kids. Then I wondered what the fuck for?

Love and money always mix, if you plan on having the movie family lifestyle. Problem is in America we live in a society where it is ok to milk and sue everyone you can by damn near any means necessary. So the trick is, is finding a companion whose morals are in line with yours, and you will find a good wife. I'm this guy
Gabriel Myers
Imagine posting a thread like this and never once calling for change in society.
Jeremiah Cox
But how do you change it? Merely being aware of a problem is not enough to understand all of its root causes, and it is especially not enough to know how to fix it.
I don't think you need to change society, you have to start with your own life.
Ian Kelly
Bruh it's because you're uneducated. Learn more, do more. Me

Your parents went to college for nothing, bought houses for nothing. Each year we work harder for less money. Each year rents go up relative to income. The economic power imbalance grows larger under republicans and democrats alike. Why is this?
Rich elites own the mines and oil wells, the factories, the warehouses, the pipelines, the online accounts of millions, the lobbyists, the news media, the republicans and the democrats. Rich elites own your labor and your livelihood. Rich elites can beat you in court.
You are like a drowning person struggling towards the nearest piece of driftwood, with no time or energy to curse the person who threw you into the sea and sailed away. Threads like this on Yea Forums reveal the depth of despair and apathy we have sunk to under capitalism.
We try so hard to change ourselves to be happy, we forget to question the system we live under. It is not your job to fix yourself, it is not your job to eliminate those aspects of your humanity that get in the way of other peoples' profit. An economic power imbalance put us all here, and it is that economic power imbalance that must change.
Alexander Parker
You're kind of right, but you too are uneducated.

I typed this up at work while I was on the toilet today and someone copied and reposted it.

Your humiliation is class humiliation. You put on an apron and a nametag and you go to work for shit wages at an undignified job. You watch commercials on television in which a hamburger falls from the top of the screen and bounces twice. You pass rows of magazines with rich celebrities on them, airbrushed and grinning like fucking maniacs.
Relative to income, rent has gone up 60% since the 1960s. One health emergency will set you back $50,000 in the US. Your health insurance won't pay until you spend thousands out of pocket. The entire world is arranged to take your money from you and keep you in a position of powerlessness. You can't help but bleed money day after day.

Having a stable pecking order reduces deaths and injuries due to infighting. Watch animals break up fights between other animals. We are hardwired to defend the status quo and to reduce conflict. So we defend the ruling class and turn on each other instead. Whites blame minorities, men blame women, straights blame gays. Those who were historically higher up in the pecking order blame only those historically lower in the pecking order.

In science not business. To refine what I meant, you are not financially literate.

Ah yes. Once we all have Roth IRAs, surely utopia will be achieved?

There is an answer to your question: -> the Tetrapharmakon. Frugality is key in life. The key to happiness is moderation and withdrawal from society. Humans are stupid. Don't get involved in politics. Don't have an opinion. Just withdraw from the world and live a life of frugality.
>Religious people happier than atheists Going to need a citation for that bub
>Unconditional love That's called community. It is not hard to get. You'll get it as much from a church as you'd get being a regular at bingo night.
Henry Bailey
I should point out I believe some people do need religion but I just am not convinced with your claim atheists are less happy.
I also could be bias because I grew up Catholic which, as all the jokes will tell you, is based heavily in shame and suffering.
Charles Gutierrez
Fuck you idiot. I gotta hot wife and I love life. Sorry your a fucking loser.
Carson Watson
I apologize. It was a brilliant piece of writing and I wanted more people to comment on it. The credit is entirely yours.

So I can run to the store before it closes in 20 minutes, I'll cut to the end of the debate we would've had:
It doesn't matter that some people will do well. I'm doing well, you're doing well. It doesn't matter. In science, we have a concept called "dynamic equilibrium." Imagine a wall with holes in it. On one side, you have young children throwing balls at the holes. On the other side you have a few skilled teenagers throwing balls back. Over time, the number of balls on either side of the wall will tend towards a constant ratio.
The structure of our society today ensures that, even though some people will inevitably succeed, there will always be a large underclass of people who do not succeed, who will never succeed, who will languish at the bottom of society until they die.
Upward mobility is decreasing. There is still upward mobility, but fewer and fewer people actually move upwards. Increasing the height of a basketball hoop does not prevent a person from scoring, but it ensures that fewer people will score during the course of the game. The height of the basketball hoop has been increasing for decades now and is not slowing down.
As people are segregated into socioeconomic classes, tribalism produces a form of class sadism. The upper classes look down on the lower classes and assure themselves that those at the bottom deserve their suffering. Because the upper classes control the government and own the means of production, their class sadism is encoded in law and in company policies across the nation.
Suicide rates are climbing. The toll of this system is growing every year. It must end.
