Does anyone know of a tool that will allow me to create a password encrypted folder on an external hard disk?
It's officially 1984 and we should all have a place to store our shit.

Yah man there are tools for this that come with most operating systems just google a how to guide this is very easy and common, many external hard drives even come with encryption software I know Kingston does
Bitlocker to go
Use linux.
veracrypt
>bitlocker
multi kek
Veracrypt.
Easy, even for retard
agree
I'm gonna check this out. Thanks guys.
I'm assuming it will hold up if the cops seized the hdd?
I don't know man.
I'm overly paranoid, but corporations are already selling our data to the lowest bidder. Wouldn't trust a corporation with my "private" folder.
Nope, smash and burn. It's the only way to truly keep cops or anyone from cracking the encryption and keep in mind that some companies are required to give backdoor access, keys to unlock or aid to get data.
Nope. None of those "out of the box" ones will...
This is why I was hoping for some.. independent? Software.
I'm not hiding any really bad stuff. It's not FBI level I'm expecting.
Just keeping the local police types out.
Local police are given FBI help and aid.
Then you'll need to take the time to learn about encryption and not just download something that does it for you.
Not US.
And I'm pretty sure the local police wouldn't ask for help from national security to get hold of some torrents and pron.
Linux, win a call that if the password is mistyped it activates a encryptware (wannacry) and after the hd is fully infected run rm -rf on root.
So, your local police in whatever shithole country you are in is give FBI help ever upfront or through back channels and that's the best case scenario. Pray your shit country didnt make a deal with the NSA or CIA.
yea, learn how to code you stupid mutt
That is actually the plan.
But that doesn't help right now unfortunately.
I've used true crypt before and it worked pretty good. don't see why it wouldn't be still relevant
VeraCrypt (previously mentioned) is a "fork" of the, now discontinued, earlier "TrueCrypt".
See Wikipedia article about VeraCrypt to learn about TrueCrypt's vulnerabilities:
just go to run, type syskey, put a random password in, (it will create a random string from that anyway) and hit enter. Now you can put passwords on anything
Depends on what you try to hide.
I can't guarantee NSA wouldn't be able to crack into it, since they could possibly leverage some dark ass zero day.
But for classical, common rights offending, it's OK.
Theres no backdoors into 256 bit encryption.
This OP its simple and safe.
Thanks I guess it's time to update my software. Not that I have anything to hide.
