I've recorded myself shooting guns (thought I was gonna be a youtuber then decided fuck it) and the reason it's a pop is that the microphone or the device (camera, phone, go pro, etc) has AGC, automatic gain control. It automatically reduces the level of a VERY loud video.
Watch some gun videos where guys review guns or something like that, and if they talk right after shooting you can barely hear their voice because the AGC is still cranked way down. It takes a second or two for it to come back up.

If you study video and image compression, you will learn that the full resolution stream is being compressed in realtime before you ever see it. The small objects, while still moving, will appear in the video because their position and the resulting still frame images are each different from the last. When they hit the ground and stop moving, they would tend to blend in better to the nonmoving background they appear on, and thus are more likely to get optimized out somewhat so the codec can do a better job representing the rest of the action taking place. Not saying This happens always, but in some conditions it is entirely possible. They are perhaps actually "disappearing" shell casings in the compressed stream. But they would show up better in the originally recorded and uploaded, less compressed version.

The codec compression strategy used can and often does vary over different chunks of the image as well as over time. It really all depends on the relative rates of motion of different parts of the image. In an FPS scenario, it's always going to be doing a lot of fast region translation and it will preferentially blur out or completely miss slow moving and stationary objects that's not relevant to the larger action elsewhere in frame. I haven't watched all of the video yet but I'll try to verify this... I still think the codec assumed tiny small changes can be less important. It's lossy compression. They probably got lost.
