King Crimson was mostly written by an actually classically trained musician pulling themes from composers such as Bela Bartok and Paul Hindemith. KC is hardly wankery and the fact that you call it that shows you don't really know what you're talking about, that or your reference for King Crimson is only the song Moonchild.
Even then there is value in wankery, Yes made a couple of great wank albums, such as Close to the Edge.
