Every department sets their own eligibility criteria for SWAT. Usually its 2-3-4 years on the street, clean record, no disciplinary actions blah-blah. Once you're eligible, it's completely up to you to train for the try-outs.Then its up for the TL to determine how ready you're for operational assignment. Its very individual.

Had a new kid who forgot how to disassemble his rifle, overheated after a 10 minute run and just gave up mid-training. He is a decent person, just not cut out for SWAT. Its normal.
