I'm stuck on a 32bit notebook due to a govt. work contract, and I'm legally not allowed to use any other tech except the provided phone on the side.
What the fuck kind of web browser doesn't eat 250+ MB on a single tab? All the question threads off Google are simply wrong/outdated/ridiculous; any up to date recommendation from a Yea Forumsrother?
Currently I can't watch porn, open excel and print simultaneously without everything shitting the bed.

It's fucked. I'm not allowed to make any changes, and could technically get my contract termniated if I booted a proper OS off an USB stick, but I'm allowed to use it fully as a private machine while I travel.
When the contract is up, I get to keep this thing after a HDD replacement, so I guess they don't care about a 3 cm crust of jizz.
This is common with some agencies where I live, related to statistics or data gathering. They expect you to hold onto the equipment they've issued so the contractor can skip the onboarding process for the most part when a new task comes in.
I think chrome is the big RAM eater, I would use Firefox. I think it just goes off the cpu

Firefox is actually one of my best options right now, but testing showed that it will for some reason jump in RAM useage some minutes after closing 3-4 tabs in quick succession.
Digging through the option page(s) to see if I can minimize any RAM caching of formerly opened sites.
16 GB for some reason, but I'm stuck with a 32bit system, so only roughly 3 GB are free after 32bit restrictions + OS. AV software taking up another ~120 MB, but that's somewhat lightweight at least.
So far both Firefox Quantum & an older portable FF version started gobbling 250+ MB; subject to fiddling around.
Pale Moon looks (theme wise) like I'm supposed to grow a vagina using this, but it's actually restricted itself to 130MB at launch. Opening videos/bigger HTML5 heavy sites raises RAM useage as expected, but it keeps going back to 200 MB when closing the tabs, even after some stress testing.
I'll see if I can get mimic the configurations for Chrome/standard Firefox, so I can pretend to be in compliance.

The notebook has been purchased within compliance/guidelines, roughly 3-4 years ago, so it's up-to-date.
The problem lies with the licensing contracts some universities have been deepthroated with; some data parsing software they can't get rid of without huge penalties until ~2024 happens to run in 32bit exclusively (some shitty quick-fix in house solution that was sold by one university & later taken up by the vendor who bought it, the fucking irony), and we're running a client & server on the work notebooks to see if the data goes through the parser just fine before we submit it to the universities/agency.
The BS with "not allowed to make any changes" is just standard govt. fare. A way more practical & secure approach would be just running the thing on a proper OS and using the server/client testing 32 bit OS in a VM off an encrypted partition or something, but policy makers/enforcers rarely have their jobs for their IT prowess.
Update: Not too happy with results so far, but Pale Moon (FF variant) gave me some config profiles that seem to work slightly better when moved to standard Firefox. I'll see about fine tuning Chrome to match similar standards and compare.
Unless some genius ideas come up, or some conversation gets/keeps going, I'll just keep dumping porn here until I have other things to do.
Regarding the picture: This one I find interesting. The model's name is Lucie Wilde - a Czech lady who only had a short porn in career - and she's been often called "retarded" or "dead inside."

As I've said, legally & by contract I am restricted to using this notebook and the phone I've been given for the duration of the contract.
Travelling with two notebooks is kind of dicks, anyway.
I know, I quite adore her. Her misfortune is her tiny lazy eye reinforcing/inciting her "she's retarded" fandom, but she comes off as quite grounded and independent in interviews.
