These dogs have been bred to be able to fight against other dogs and to protect humans. If you want to own a pit bull you need to be an expirienced trainer that should know that these dogs cant be raised with scolding but you need allot of patience with these doggos. They are really loyal to their owners if raised correctly. As a pit bull owner I can say that this breed is one of the smartest and are allot like people (more like children). Say if your owners were treating you like shit without any shelter, food and love what would you do ? I know that the next statement is going to sound retarded but these dogs need care and love.

Pit bulls were bred to be fighting dogs capable of taking on larger animals.. They were designed to fuck shit up. So while they may be overall friendly and loving dogs, when one snaps at a human as almost all dogs occasionally do, they do serious damage.

The problem with pit bulls is not their temperament, it is their power. Even if they bite less than one percent as much as smaller dogs they will still do more damage in the long run. Any owner that tries to argue with this is either stupid or negligently irresponsible.

Owning a pit bull is like leaving a loaded gun on the kitchen table. Perfectly safe until your kid picks it up to play with it. With pits, you are depending on the dog's judgement as to when it needs to attack, and some of them have very bad judgement. And when they do attack, it is often lethal. i don't know man, i had a girl that i was going out with and she had a baby pitbull then (6 months old) and it was untrained and it kept biting me whenever i was at her place, not real bites but with his frontal teeth the little ones, it was more like a pinch than a bite
later on she got a trainer and i was there for the first lesson and shit and the trainer told us to not be prejudiced about it and that if we train him well he will do everything we say and obey all the time and i don't know if he was telling us this for the money or it was real
dog never stopped biting me even though i trained him to sit still and listen me and shit
split up with the girl eventually for other reasons but the fucking shit always kept biting me regardless of the time i spent with him

What I would really like to know is that what positive qualities does pit bulls have that make up for their tendency to lose their shit and attack people that other dogs don't have? Or is it just a case of pit bull owners thinking that theirs is special and not like all those other pit bulls?

My opinion is uncertain. I used to be hell bent against them, but I adopted a black lab/put bull mix, and she is the most submissive, unaggressive animal I've ever met. So much so that her standard greeting is to crawl up to me and roll over to expose her tummy. She likes to sleep snuggled up with me like a person. She a lot of time on the street (including apparently being hit by a car such that one of her tibias was snapped in half and healed that way) and I now understand why some owners say they're the sweetest dog. I'm a distrustful person by nature, but she won me over.
