Best thing about thick(er) rings is that, once healed, you can absolutely mistreat them and nothing will really happen, apart from a nice feeling (if you're into a bit of pain play ofc). Honestly it's not that big of a deal. Nipple piercings take a while to heal but the pain of piercing them is oddly pleasurable (again, if that's your thing). I did them myself and had no issues with them whatsoever apart from some minor setbacks when my then gf couldn't leave them alone during healing.
Dick ring is ironically a lot easier. Healing is fast and the pain is just a very short, sharp jolt. Honestly the pain wasn't all that bad (although not pleasurable this time), it was over before I knew it. Stretching tales some patience, you definitely don't want to rush this. Take something like 3/4 weeks between sizes. You could probably get away with 2 but it's better to wait.

Btw tattoos and branding are a lot more permanent if you ask me, I have a couple of small stick and pokes on locations not easily seen but still they're always there. Not regretting them, they have a function, but they are a larger commitment than piercings unless you go for the really obscure ones that go through the dickhead (PA goes just under), haven't had any experience with those and the 6 month no sex healing time puts me off

I haven't got any experience with ladder piercings, bit generally if you stretch a piercing and then leave out the jewellery it shrinks back to a very small dismeter and becomes not invisible but pretty close. And the underside of the penis isn't really something you see often so I think it'd be ok. I can recommend the PA more though, if you haven't already got one

Do it, you won't regret it. Many shops make you make an appointment for genital piercings so you can just call them, set a date+time and that's your safety to not just postpone it. Pain is minimal and the hole will be strong enough for rougher sex in 4-6 weeks although you can carefully wank it after a shorter while.
Do note: stretching is barely optional here, as most piercers will use 1,6 or maybe 2mm thick rings which will feel uncomfortable after a while with intense use. A thicker ring will be a lot more comfortable. Just order some tapers (2mm, 2,5mm, 3mm, 4mm, however thick you want to go, but I'd recommend a minimum of 3mm)

Btw if you're going to buy tapers, make sure you get the steel 'insertion pin' type, they have a hole in the back side you can use to slide the new ring through the hole
