So, any offroad anons think they could help me out? Ive had my truck stuck in a fucking clay/mud rut for going on two months now... i have tried just about everything (Boards, gravel, dug ditches down the length of the wheels) NOTHING helps..it rocks and moves back and forth I just cant get traction to back all the way out.

Anyone have any other idea to help me get unstuck? Also cant use tow trucks, they are too heavy and would get stuck as well due to the soil being to soft for a 20,000 pound tow truck.

You got friends?

Dumb ass redneck. Lift it up and put rocks under it.

Im no where near a redneck..and if you read the fucking thing I said I tried gravel...fucking read.

No one with a Truck user...

110% not a redneck user.

You're asking in the wrong place mate.
is about the the closest thing these basement kids know

I tried the auto section, but got no response..so figured id try my luck on Yea Forums

Sounds like your truck situation defies physics. /I would think leveling out the area, putting down some gravel/planks would fix it, especially if you got it rocking. Is there no way to fit anything under it?

Any way to rent a winch?

Ask a farmer with a tractor.

Its mostly the fact that the tires are shit, The ground has been wet since winter, so most of the time, even with wood under the tires (and even some textured brick I had laying around) just causes the tires to spin. It was down to the frame, at one point but got it up a little, but still no luck getting enough traction to get completely out..

Even if I could user, dont really have anything to attach it to.

If I knew any I would..closest farm to me is about 10 miles away

A guy like you is going to need some help. If you are that stuck you need chains and some come alongs, or a winch. Or you are just going to have to find someone to help you.

about two vehicle lengths away, drive a fence pile down into the clay, at an angle so it leans slightly in the direction you want the vehicle to go.
Attach winch, come-along, chainfall, ratched hoist, whatever between the BASE of the fence pile and an appropriate point on the vehicle.
Crank that shit out of the hole.
Get better tires next time.

Honestly If i could find some one with a 4x4 and some tow straps it would like just pull right out while in neutral..but I dont know anyone around. Sucks..just been trying to find another solution, walking 6 miles to work at 3 Am in 30ish degree weather gets old lol

>come-along

Might have to give that a try, and agreed about the tires..they will be ordered this summer

If you have spoked type rims with any punt of clearance you can wrap rope through them around the tires. Poor man's tire chains that work in a pinch.

Is your truck 4x4 and what brand is it?

Punt = amount

No, its a 2wd 2002 Dodge Dakota..I imagine if It were 4x4 id have been out by now. But this clay mud shit is brutal when stuck in it.

You're not a real country boy, are you?

If you can't get a tractor in there with a chain, get some come-alongs and anchor posts and work that bitch back to solid ground. If there's trees nearby, use those. Trees must be large and stable enough, attach chains as low as possible.

Be mindful of the come-along cables possibly snapping and killing you.

So you live in your truck? Ask someone at work to help you. Now you are starting to sound even more full of shit.

The machine you use is kind of immaterial, I just don't know what you have on hand.

I've only had those shitty little hand ratchets that you can use to tighten hold-down straps before, but in that case you usually can't drag it out in neutral, but you can give it a little extra tension to help drive it out.

We have a lot of that shit here on the east coast too. I have been stuck more than my fair share of times. If you can't get a winch or someone to tow you out you can use a hi-lift jack as a makeshift winch. It takes a while but it's almost guaranteed to winch you out.

But be careful, they're nicknamed widow maker jacks for a reason

>two people giving the near exact same method
It's like folks getting their truck bottomed out while mudding is a solved problem.

No, not a country boy..And no access to a tractor.

No, I dont live in my truck ha, its stuck behind my house...and I just started working there a few weeks back, im over night package handler for FedEx, so only there like 4 hours a night..dont know many people yet.

I live in Southern ohio, alot of the area is old farm land..so its all over the place here. And the area Im in the city wont put any drainage in, so the ground retains water like a sponge.

This would be a great way to get to know people. Invite them over, do man things, pay them in beer and pizza.

Sadly, I wasnt mudding or off roading, I just pulled into my back yard to haul some old mattress off from my car port, and like an idiot, managed to get stuck.

Might try this, though im shit at starting conversations with random people..always feel fucking awkward just striking up conversation with people..

Was just going to say this.

You should also air down your tires. Your trucks recommend tire pressure is probably around 35psi, air them down to around 25psi. It will let them flex more and give more traction.

This is the first bigger truck ive own, so never really had to deal with this shit before, owned a couple first gen S-10's in the past, but nothing this heavy.

Everyone does. Do it anyway. Apologize if you like for being awkward.

Didnt know that, Ill give that a try tomorrow when I get home from work.

Bullshit. Show a pic of it. Get to shoveling.

I appreciate all the replies and help anons, and not treating me like too much of an idiot lol Ill give a few of the suggestions a try tomorrow.

Attached: images.jpg (278x181, 10K)

I run older Toyota pickup trucks and I can air mine down to 8psi because I have bead lockers.

But don't air them down that much or you'll have a whole new set of problems

Just because you got a vehicle stuck doesn’t mean you’re and idiot that shit has happened to almost everyone

Seriously though, I rescued a buddy who rolled his rock crawler down the embankment on a logging road a few times.

Here user..had to go out back and take some

Attached: 20190322_221547.jpg (4029x2687, 1.59M)

Get to shoveling

This side doesnt look so bad, but its the drive side..so it ends up spinning more than the driver side.

Attached: 20190322_221559.jpg (4029x2687, 1.94M)

Ive been shoveling..thats what those holes are...If that helped anything..I wouldnt be asking for help

Ahh the joy of open diffs.

Thanks user..sure makes you feel like ani idiot getting stuck in your own yard though lol

yep, also another first for me ha

You haven't shoveled enough

This is what winches are for, without a winch a heavy come-along or a handyman jack and longish chain will serve.
Anchor to something solid, pound a fucking post it there's no stumps or rocks handy, drag it back in steps until you've got enough bite to pull out.

If you're on the frame you will need to get pulled out or dig out. Looks like you are close to a fence too?

Its too dark to tell from the pictures, but Ive shoveled a little deeper than ankle depth around it..it doesnt help, because the ground and my shit tires. i could wait till summer till the ground dries..but id rather not if I can help it

A little hardcore for the Flatbrimming Mall-crawler crowd, you ventured off pavement so you won't get too much shit from me...

Maybe try digging out under the back of the front wheels and slipping a plank under it to give traction as you back up.

Driver side looks like it's on the frame. Best option is to pull it out backwards until you can back out on your own.

Yeah pretty close to the frame...maybe a foot of clearance now..was down to the frame about a month ago, but got it up with a bit higher when it finally rolled forward a bit. The fence belongs to my asshole neighbor so can really use it ha

There's a learning curve, 2 or 4 wheel drive?

I dug a trench from the front to the back wheels, though have not tried a plank up front..though its the back im having more an issue with

2WD user

Ha, thanks...I think

I'd you are spinning and not moving you are hung up on the frame or axles or both. If you can still move the vehicle, you need to back out.

After this is handled invest in some AT or MT tread tires if your planning on leaving the pavement again.

Your front wheels are probably slipping too. As long as one set has traction it shouldn't be too bad and the plank should stop it from getting stuck again.

That's what I would do. They actually make something similar to this but instead of a plank it's a bunch of metal bars that dig into the tire as it goes over it.

This, can't improve on this much...

I can almost get it backed out, I can move it, maybe rocks a foot or some in either direction but for what ever reason cant get it to get enough to back up before the passenger side wheel spins too much.

Yeah, i plan on it..got a set of Falken wildpeaks coming with my next paycheck..just gotta get them installed after I get unstuck.

Yeah, I've been the new guy stuck figuring out my own shit before...

Ill throw some boards under there tomorrow see if this will help out..Ive been focused on traction in the rear, didnt give much thought to anything other than digging out the front

I’m not Op dude

Yep, kinda sucks sometimes

I've been stuck tons of times. Sometimes you just have to get pulled out. You really need to ask around at work or something. Even tell your manager or something, they might know somebody who could help you. If not, you are just going to keep getting into a deeper hole until it has to be winched out.

I know, that was me (OP) replying to it

Ill ask around tonight when I head in, suppose the most that can happen is people say no.

Even offer to pay them if you can or buy them some beers.

Just make sure they're under the tire enough to grip it or it will just spin. The front tires have most of the weight of the truck on it because of the engine and other shit.

Ill have to see if I can get my jack under that part without it sinking...But definitly will try this tomorrow. Thanks for the idea

4x4 will just get you stuck deeper sometimes, decent tread on the driving wheels helps but the rear of a 2 wheel drive is pretty light without ballast, 4x4 was a luxury back in grandpas day and they got shit done, but you do have to pay attention.

I'll second the Hi-Lift, it's handy for lots of shit but you've got to watch the ratchet pawls and use plenty of lube or life will get lively in a bad way...

I figure (hopefully) if I find someone with a 4x4 to help me out they will know more of what to do than me so I dont have to worry so much ha..But literally Im pretty sure if I put it in neutral it would just need pulled like 10 feet tops to be on solid ground again. the surrounding top soil/ ground is hardened up a bit since..but any time its rained it just makes the holes around the tires and shit wet again, which takes forever to get dry.

BTDT, it only gets better by powering through...

Oh, I thought it was a 4x4. If you have enough wood, do it for all four wheels. I would just get a shovel and dig out a few inches under the back of the wheel enough to get it part of the plank under.

Mudders trick, air em back up before running on pavement...

No, its just 2wd...and the rear wheels move independently of each other..so it doesnt help.

I wouldnt be able to air them back up until I got to the gas station about a mile up the road..so this might not be a good idea ha

How the hell are you gonna learn anything if you never fuck up?
LOL!

This is very true

Decent looking Dodge.
You're deep enough that the diff is hitting, it'll need to come back out of the hole a couple of feet...

They also make something called a traction mat that works like a better version of the plank and I think you can also make them out of milk crates. You should be fine with just the plank. You could also make some shallow cuts in the plank with a circular saw if you wanted a bit more grip.

youtube.com/watch?v=ovd-BxLSPo4

Strap a long board to the tire.

Attached: giphy-2.gif (343x181, 1.86M)

Yeah, its in pretty decent shape (other than being stuck lol) about 160k miles. The under carriage isnt touching the ground any more, though it looks that way in the pictures...It moves, just not enough to catch traction to get out yet.

When its not stuck lol

Attached: 20181214_135204.jpg (4032x2295, 1.79M)

Even with 2wd some planks might buy you some wiggle room under the fronts, you know that clay is adding drag...

Ill have to see if I have anything to tie the boards around the wheels with..I have some 2x8 boards..not sure they are thick enough though

Thank you..will give it a shot

I looked into those things, but couldnt justify the cost right now..especially since I dont plan on getting stuck anytime soon after this lol

Posted some pictures above user..and yeah, tried a couple bags of gravel from lowes when I picked up the boards, but it just got buried when the wheels spun in the clay/mud...Im in southern Ohio, closest city is Chillicothe. glorious shit hole of a town ha

Have you tried jacking the vehicle up, and packing in rocks underneath the tires, so that when you lower the jack back down, it doesn't sink into the mud? Be VERY careful not to get underneath the vehicle or tires, while doing this.

Also, it doesn't look that bad in the pictures, after you jack it up and pile the rocks in underneath it, maybe try some 6x6's side by side, on top of the rocks, for a bar to spread the weight out.

Hmm, ok another question, any way of pumping off some of the water from your yard, to help dry it out?

Be careful on doing that, Dakota's don't have massive amounts of clearance in the wheel wells.

F.Y.I., you can't put chains on a lot of the years of the Dakota's, per Dodge, for exactly that reason.

No, I go out and pull the water when i can with a bucket if it rains and fills them up..but the area is all old farm land with no proper drainage. So when the ground gets wet, it stays that way for a while

Might avoid this then unless it comes down to a last resort thing. The clearance thing has been an issue up until I found the Falken wildpeaks I will be ordering with getting new tires..just sucks I found them after I got stuck.

Try posting on Yea Forums with a picture of your truck stuck in the mud, and title the thread anyone in southern ohio available to help a stuck /bro/ out.

That might get someone with a 4WD to reply.

Thanks user..might give that ago tomorrow after i try a few of the suggestions

P.S., just as something to think about, if that is the only vehicle that you drive, and you aren't able to drive it for awhile longer, no point in paying for the car insurance for it to be on the road. Might as well drop the insurance down for the parked coverage, until you get it loose, then call up your agent and put it back on the road.

Get a 5 ton come-along, find a big-assed tree or boulder, attach the come-along, hook the cable to your truck, and start pumping. It'll pull your truck out.

people are smart sometimes

If you're really in Ohio, someone around there has a tractor. Don't fucking lie, I'm from Ohio too. There's like 6 tractors for every square mile in that state
