Well, there was no political corrctness for one.
Secondly, it was the last time that music sounded differently. Starting in the '90s, music 'solidified' into the types of music we hear today. When I return to the US every so often and I happen to listen to the radio, it's exactly like it was 25 years ago.
Dungeons and Dragons was making waves in the world. Cartoons were better in the US than they are now (still not on the lvel of the Japanese, but hey...). Comedies were funnier generally, and many movies were just all around better because they were less formulaic. You didn't have millions of reboots and Hollywood whoredom cranking out rip-offs left and right with similar words in teh titles or cover art.
