I would prefer it, assuming there's nothing weird going on with it.
I didn't know farms were called labs, now.
yes, have they started making it a bigger process yet?
Humane is a shifting and subjective term. I would eat lab meat though, assuming it’s the same thing as animal meat on a compositional level. It seems like a clever (maybe practical) application of modern science and the field piques my curiosity.
No, I only want natural meat.
way better for the environment, can't feed india/china meat without it
See
Only a degenerate would allow other people to "make" (in a lab) an "edible" (non organic) artificial, synthetic, manufactured piece of flesh to eat (fuck you)
I have a bachelor’s on molecular biology.
I am currently working on my phd.
I would rather become a vegetarian. I hate to sound like a doomsayer but mark my words, this meat can be either cheap or not give you cancer, not both.
Yes, currently red meat also increases risk of cancer but this is worse.
I see your point. Fact is, I’m not “allowing” anything. I certainly couldn’t stop these labs from operating if I wanted to - and I don’t.
Maybe I am degenerate for being on the fence and curious about the process and it’s future, but at least give me credit for considering a point of view like yours, as I mention at the very beginning of my post. Are you genuinely angered by what I had to say? I’d like to bring to your attention that I’m way to far down the totem pole to make any global impact on policy and definitely won’t be swaying the opinions of an entire generation of westerners as far as lab meat goes.
Nobody is gonna give a fuck about eating lab grown cow/chicken.
The REAL money question is would you eat lab grown human?
That is a good question. Thanks, I’ll actually start throwing that out there when this comes up in the context of “ethical meat”
Hm, I’m going to keep my eye on this school of thought. Maybe I’ll look into it
Also, since i know this is gonna be a yes, what will the black market look like for human meat? Would it be illegal to grow steaks from young children? Or would that just make it a premium price point? And lets not forget celebrities. Who wouldn't want to fuck a hamburger shaped like the pussy of Hollywood starlet?
Absolutely. For economic and environmental reasons.
I've even switched to eating meat every 2-3 days instead of daily for these reasons plus health.
When lab meat becomes established cheap and mainstream enough it's on par with or less in cost than real meat, I'd probably go back to being a goddamn carnivore.
>I'm eating meat every 2-3 days
I'm the new kind of vegan guys, I'll be dropping this factoid about myself relevant or not in every thread and conversation for years. Excuse me, I'm gonna go make shakshuka. Oh you don't know what it is? It's this delicious north African dish, so exotic and delicious. Yeah it's made with chick peas. They're my favourite. It's just so healthy and a good meat replacement, you know?
They're getting there.
It's still very expensive and I'm not sure it's publicly available yet.
You can get beyond meat now which is veggie based and extremely surprising in it's flavour, but that's expensive AF, and still not quite meat.
In fact it would be MORE ethical then even other lab grown meats, as the source would be a human, who can give consent and have the starter cells harvested without any real or lasting harm to the subject.
"publicly available" is a bit tricky concept.
I THINK and am too lazy to look it up, you can get a lab to grow a burger for you for around 10k
You know, I have never been one to call bullshit on someone way more educated than me on a topic I know nothing about, but this seems like a very suspicious claim.
Why would it be more carcinogenic? Is it something they put in it to encourage cell divide? Actually that would make sense I guess..
Oh, yeah it is tricky. I don't define that as publicly available though. I mean I can drive to the local store and get it.
Becoming vegan is like saying I’m never taking a method of transportation that required the use of fossil fuels ever again. Walking it is. It’s literally impossible and entirely inefficient (for you and everyone else.) you can’t remove your impact from the equation and drawing a hard line somewhere arbitrarily is like a baseless religion.
Cutting down is a more intellectually honest approach and quite frankly, better for your psyche as it’s not so painfully restrictive (which we know humans don’t mix well with.)
Asshole armchair philosopher over here if you couldn’t tell
Honestly I dont give a shit, if it’s meat it’s meat
if it didnt taste like shit or have a weird texture i wouldn't give a fuck also it would have to be just as cheap as regular meat but until wolves are reintroduced to there native range im still going to do my part and kill a couple deer for meat a year.
Interesting point. I see the string of logic there.
I should point out though, As evidenced in this thread, a large chunk of the population already deem any artificial flesh growth as unethical (fundamentalist religious types, etc)
I air on your side of the topic, personally
yes
Something that simulates lab grown meat IS available and not too expensive. They even serve it at White Castle! It has a texture like meat and contains synthetic heme, which is like real meat juice. People say it's pretty good. I would eat it, but I would also eat something cut off a dead cow.

True humanity is dominance. Eating animal meat is more humane because you are proving your ability to overcome compassion and fight against nature.
