AK family is lower maintenance for the most part, but dont expect great accuracy from it
Armalite Rifles are like the Chevy LS for guns, theres parts everywhere
5.56 NATO ammo is also probably cheaper

Pretty much nailed it. I have a similar model as the picture and an AR. That AK counts as a pistol, and I can get ammo for $5/20 rounds. (The century arms AK loves cheap ammo) It's fun for plinking, but as this guy said, the AR is going to be more accurate
