Civil wars only bring ruin and suffering to a country you want to be proud of: destroying that which makes you proud in the process despite which side wins. What we need is a good old fashioned public rallying cry in the form of a highly encompassing disaster or conflict with outside forces--we need to go to war for ourselves again.
