American film studios work in several parts of the country, don't confine yourself to one clique or community for work. Chances are you'll be able to try out anywhere, given your involvement with the aviation industry.
If you haven't yet, I highly suggest you do work as an extra to get a feeling of how actors work on set. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if you got hired as a field mechanic for a project. You could be stupid-lucky like Harrison Ford or Bill Murray, and outshine everyone else without even trying.
