Why are all African countries vastly underdeveloped compared to the western world?

Basically, the salt King of Western Africa was the richest man in the world at a time. Then hardy dar, the europeans are good at fighting and that's about it, invade africa, take all of Egyptian and other African knowledge, and saying Euclid invented Geometry.

The point is less that Western powers didn't help Africa and more that they actively hindered their progress. It did British taskmasters no good to teach natives to read because they would then have a much easier time organizing and potentially ousting the colonizers. You have to understand, the population difference we're talking about is immense; the natives outnumbered colonizers by many orders of magnitudes. The only chance of keeping them contained was making sure they were too busy fighting amongst themselves to ever unite. This strategy was wildly successful in places like South Africa, as well as the Congo among others.

Europeans did NOT have the stagnating presence of a foreign power who's best interest was to keep them in the dark ages; they mostly developed freely and thus had a massive advantage.

They did colonize parts of what is now Namibia, as well as Tanzania I believe, but they were quite late to the party and learned a lot from the other Powers' mistakes. Those places aren't quite as shitty as the rest nowadays.
