I wanna learn to play Go and Shogi, but offline. Strangely enough, I love in an area where thats possible, but as a 30yr old white male, id totally be an outsider.

the thing i enjoy about go is that there are no openings unlike in chess. with go you start with the basic opening and then boom. no more openings. its literally just your ideas. in chess the first 10 to 20 moves are analysed and fully understood. and there are times when your opponent can insta win because he read some strategy book and learned to copy paste some piece movement. im better at chess than i am at go. but even so i think go is to chess. as chess is to checkers. honestly go is just a better game and thats that.

hahah nope

How do you play go? I've always wanted to learn.

I was super high one day playing go with my friend and I realized that every move you make has an echo. Every single piece claims another section moves in advance

the goal of go is to have territory than your opponent. see how in pic white has a lot of empty space that its surrounding? thats called territory. the person with the most territory at the end of the game wins. this is where it differs from chess. in go having the most pieces dosent mean you will win. its a game about making moves that leaves you with empty space while forcing your opponent to seal up his empty space.

Would you say those two black pieces at the top are alive or not?

they're dead. no eyes and white in the corner can always connect to the living group on the side
