In 2071, the Independent Freydis Colony on Mars grants asylum to the 10 NASA colonists on the planet after they abandon their post due to neglect and under funding from the US government. In doing so, they established themselves as the State of Mars and soon after, the US declared a trade embargo against them. A year later, the Chinese-Russian alliance attempts to launch a supply drop to Mars, but the US bombs the rocket out of the sky before it leaves the atmosphere. The US retaliates with conventional warfare, but with their military already spread thin, protecting Brazil from the Colombian guerilla forces, and suppressing attempts at revolution, they resort to nuclear warfare. At this point, Earth enters WW3.

Due to biological limits, our lifespan never reaches far past 120 years. As time goes on though, it becomes very rare for a person living on a CPA planet to not reach 120.

Fortunately, we never meet aliens. Earth is the origin of all life in the universe. The galaxy is full of habitable planets that are ours for the taking. That being said, there is a 40,000 year period between the launch of the first interstellar ships, and the development of faster than light travel. In that amount of time, countless worlds are colonized, and many lose their history and believe themselves to be alone in the universe. For a long time before the rediscovery of earth, people throughout the galaxy believe themselves to be native to the planets that live on, and that all others are aliens.

With the amount of times that idiots have attempted to colonize barely habitable worlds without any resources, and then faced millennia of natural selection on that planet, I'm sure that somewhere in that galaxy, there are humans that have adapted to resemble centaurs.
