Ego death isn't as scary as it sounds; basically you just start looking at the world without any mental constructions. Sure, that's often coupled with visual hallucinations and sensory distortion so it can be overwhelming, but imagine being able to see the world without the upsides or downsides of things like social structure, identity, creed, and morals; to see things for what they really truly are outside of the mental gymnastics we dress it up or down with.
Then again, the truth can be pretty intimidating and can seem kind of boring from an egoist perspective. It's a tad frustrating to see the behind the scenes of people, because without an ego to interact with their own, you kind of don't understand sobriety in the moment, but maybe that's just me.
I'm kind of rambling at this point but my goal is to assure you that there's nothing to fear in psychedelics but what you hold within yourself, and with proper preparations anyone can deal with their own problems. Find a trusted friend and put together a safe set and setting and take baby steps into the arcane world that is the expanded human mind. It's an experience like no other and I believe that it's always a good one.
